maintaining my big bore

anyone got a marlin 1985 45 70? i just got one and im wondering if it runs better with/without any lube and if so where,im going to the range tomorrow:sniper::wave::shotgun::dancingbanana::dancingbanana::ar15::50cal:

By all means lubricate the firearm, however do not put any oil up the bore prior to shooting, also oil is detrimental to the wood stock in the long term.

NOTE: ALWAYS PATCH THE BORE PRIOR TO SHOOTING TO CLEAR OIL AND OTHER OBSTRUCTIONS.

OH and...icon, icon, icon, silly icon, ridiculously silly icon and fruit icon................................................added so that my post does not look out of place and because I obviously lack the literary skills to express myself.

Me thinks you got an 1895 not a 1985?? I use 3 in 1 oil for general purpose, but I hear a product called CLP is real good, just having trouble finding any locally.

Thank you, your post actually raised a chuckle.
STEELECO..try to source some military formula Break-free CLP, the civvie formula has as much efficacy as straight oil.
The best bet is to hunt up one of the older fellows at military stores...you can bet one of those gentlemen commandeered some.
