major tokarev problems

Before I start ill just say that I have cleaned (and re-cleaned) this pistol and I have tried 3 different kinds of ammo.

This thing misfires 2-3 times per mag. I reset the hammer manually and the round ALWAYS goes off the second time. I have removed the firing pin and cleaned the firing pin channel twice now and it still does it. I have also taken the hammer apart and stretched the hammer spring a little to try to get a harder firing pin strike, this helped nothing at all.

Second problem: The hammer only resets automatically 2-3 times per mag so after it goes bang the hammer is almost always in the forward position. This happens even when I don't have a misfire. If I the rack the slide manually the hammer always stays back but when I'm actually shooting it almost always stays forward.

I have noticed on a buddy's tokarev that his hammer is quite a bit harder to pull back than mine.

What gives? Anyone have any ideas or had these problems before? I did a search and found nothing. Do I need new springs? I saw Wolff sells a spring kit for the Tokarev, if I can't figure this thing out I'll have to try new springs.

Sounds like a Hammer kit problems. Their might be cosmoline residu inside the hammer kit, did you disassembled it ? If not that would be the first thing to do, or maybe it fired so many rounds that it should be replaced ?

Try to compare the hammer kit with your friend's Tok..,

Yes I disassembled the hammer kit and cleaned it. I have approx 700 rounds though the gun and the misfiring problems have gotten progressively worse. Now this problem with the hammer not resetting has only happend in the last 200-300 rounds.

Can you borrow your friend's hammer kit ?

I think that would be a good option to try his hammer kit in your Tok, you would know on site if it is the problem...

Maybe Mastar (on top page CGN), or your local store could order one?

This is why I have 4 Tokarev, just in case I need parts.,... ;) for less than $200 you have a complete set of parts ..,

I forgot the trigger spring, check (compare) if your trigger spring is not over bent in the middle, I saw this once on one Tok..., bad disassambly action...), do not force it..,

You can go on yutube see my videos..., search for "Johnny x" videos...

I can't offer anything for the light strike issue other than to suggest you buy a new mainspring. But the hammer following the slide back could be due to an issue with the disconnector arrangement. You say it always cocks if you cycle it by hand. But try this, Cycle it by hand and pull the trigger. Keep the trigger pulled and with the other hand rack the slide fully back and then forward. If you have an issue with the disconnector setup then the hammer won't catch the sear. Instead it'll follow the slide back forward and that's the issue you have.

As I recall the disconnector works by allowing or not allowing the rear of the trigger bow to raise up far enough to contact the sear. The spring power for this is from the trigger return leaf spring pushing forward and up on the trigger bow. So the first thing to do is find out if the disconnector has broken or jammed or whatever and if the rear trigger bow spring is working at pushing the bow both forward as well as upward.

Google for "tokarev parts diagram" and you'll get an image of the stuff quickly enough.

Thanks!

I think I just found out I have a broken disconnector. I looked at some pics of other hammer assemblys and the disconnector is supposed to have a flat squarish part on the bottom. Mine does not and there is a shiny part that you can tell where it broke off from. Not sure how or why it would have broke tho.
