The rear sight in my Russian Makarov pistol, while dovetailed in, seems immovable. I've tried a punch and hamer and a dedicated rear sight pushing tool. There is a notch peened into the rear sight and the sighting rib, I thought it was just for aligning but now it seems the rear sight must be staked in with that mark. Is that so and how can i defeat it?
 
hammer with more force it will move. notch holds the sight in place after it was sighted at the factory. Normally it won't require any adjustments. If you have replaced the barrel you might need slight adjustment...
 
One trick that worked for me with the sites on my XD9 was put the slide in a freezer over night (in a plastic bag). Make sure its as cold as you can get it.. then quickly remove it and tape with a punch and hammer in a vice.. Allowed me to replace the sites, which i could not do just putting the slide in a vice and hammering with a punch.. I think the sites and the slide are made of different grade of metal so there should be differences in shrinkage..
