To anyone that owns or has owned a Makarov, are there any differences between the original Soviet ones and the Baikal ones that are available in Canada? Aside from the elongated barrel.

No differences at all, they are actually made in the same factory that the original soviet/Russian service pistol was made. I have one chambered in 9x18 makarov and love it. If you are thinking about buying one do it you won't be disappointed. Interammo has some in stock right now, that's where I got mine, Ben is great to deal with and the service is second to none.

I have a 9x18 Mak Baikal 442. It's a GREAT little pistol. My shooting partner has a Soviet Army surplus, which is cool b/c it's original, but shooting both back to back... No real difference. Mine just looks like the Finnish National Hockey Team!
