Makasi mk15 initial overview and issues

Alrighty everyone, we have officially hit round count 550-600 on the makasi. Also, got to break in another brand new makasi side by side so it made for some interesting findings. My duramag problems are… hit and miss? The gun was running well at around round count 280 (100 rounds in) and then the out of battery issues came back on the duramags (one round each mag, usually when bench resting the gun). However at round count 500 or so the problem seemed to vanish entirely, even when chambering rounds with the charging handle pointed up. Odd how it seemed to want to “come and go”. Also tested my friends cross mags in my gun, ran without a hitch, better than the duramags id say. Pmags ran fine as usual.

Heres where things get interesting, my buddy’s rifle. Duramags barely worked at all even at around round count 500 in his rifle, every couple rounds would get stuck slightly out of battery like mine would. Cross mags were very strange, they liked to engage the bolt catch every couple rounds (basically functioning like an australian push button rifle lol). Those same cross mags seemed to work fine in my rifle. Holding down the bolt catch you’d be able to get through a full mag without any issues. Pmags as with my rifle, worked fine in his.

I honestly dont have the slightest clue whats going on with these rifles at this point, any of my ideas are basically pure speculation lol. Id like to say mine is running better at the moment but the issues seem to come and go so idk… only time will tell.

Disappointing, but thank you for the post and the ammo burn.

How do you find the accuracy? 2-3 MOA?

Should get better accuracy using reloads but that doesn’t help those who don’t reload
That Pmc bronze ammo is pretty good I wonder how it would do in it
Prob anything would be better then the cheap bulk stuff, just have to find what the rifle likes
Didn’t Brigade claim good accuracy with these?
Wonder what ammo they use and recommend

Sounds like your OOB issues stem from some tolerance stacking with the magwell and mags. With respect to the unexpected bolt hold open, try replacing the bolt catch spring as it's probably too weak to reliably keep the bolt catch lever down.

3-3.5 MOA with M855 green tip is typical in any AR15, especially with a 1:7 twist barrel. Heavier/match ammo will definitely tighten that group up.

Did you upgrade the trigger? It might help tighten the cone of fire if you dont have to reef as much on the heavy milspec trigger.
I havent, im not upgrading anything like that until i get the gun functioning on par with a reliable ar15. Will likely hound brigade soon.

The owner stated 1/2 inch MOA.

You cant have 1/2 inch MOA. No such thing.

MOA is an angular measure - A circle has 360 degrees, and each degree splits into 60 minutes, meaning there are 21,600 MOA in a full circle.

Its completely unrealistic for a run of the mill semi auto to give you 1/2 MOA accuracy. 2-3 is the best you can hope for.

I think i found something, my bolt seems to be clipping the barrel extension in multiple spots, barrel extension has burrs and wear from this significant clipping. Something tells me my upper, bcg or barrel extension is out of spec 🤔
Not acceptable. A $400.00 DPMS AR doesn't have these issues guys. WTF!?

For comparison I just took a picture of the inside of a $350 10.5" Norinco AR15 that has approximately 2500 rounds fired through it and it looks untouched compared to that.

Now it's time to pull out all the OIC affected toys and clean the dust off of them.
