Make Ithaca Stakeouts Again

You won't see any 14" shotguns anytime soon. Remington, Mossberg and Ithaca all got their permits denied. So unless something changes with the export policies, we won't see them.

I wish they would make the forend with the strap like they use to do, with a rubber grip like pachmayr used to make.

.

Have you ever verified the serial number with Ithaca to see if it left the factory like that or was just built. I was talking to Dave that owns Ithaca at SHOT and he said that most of them on the auction sites are just made up clones. He was joking that he should make some up and sell them at stupid prices. It would be cool if you got some provenance on the shotgun.

Real easy from Dave to say that without any proof, i don't have to prove anything to you or anyone, and your opinion or Dave opinion doesn't worth sit to me!

If you think my gun is a fake it's up to you to prove it, not me buddy.

It would be good to know if it's a factory gun or one someone cut down just for legal reasons in Canada....
What's the choke on the barrel McCoy?

For me the gun is legit and original Stakeout from factory, prove me wrong !

And how important is the kind of choke on this gun, do you know what kind of choke the Stakeout came from factory ?

No I don't know, that's why I'm curious.

The fact is there is not much information out there about stakeout's and since you actually own one, I figured you might be one of the more knowledgeable people on CGN......?

I think our rules are a bit silly when it comes to barrel lengths, and I have no desire to prove anything regarding your shotgun.
If I was interested in buying it from you I would ask more questions as like it or not are silly rules do apply to the law abiding among us.

Not sure why you wouldn't want to know if the serial numbers match a factory made stakeout, but it wouldn't matter technically as long as the barrel came from an original stakeout and has not been shortened after it left the factory.

Usually the Ithaca choke engravings are just to the right of the roll marks but they are fairly faint engravings.

What's the finish on yours? I'm just curious, nothing to prove.

Edit, I just checked for choke markings on a 20" DSPS barrel that looks to have a similar finish as yours Mcoy and it also has no choke engravings on the barrel. Quick eyeball measurement with a ruler and it seems like it might be a modified choke but I will have to check it with a micrometer.

I'm not trying to start anything. I'm just curious. I have in the past phone the manufacture and asked what configuration my firearm has left the factory. Most of them keep precise records. They can even tell you what day it was made. I have 2 shorty barrels that I bought at a auction for $86ea and they have the same markings.

I have a copy of Walt Snyder's Ithaca Featherlight Repeaters sitting beside me, and while I can't quite make out the entire serial number, it appears to be in the correct range for a Stakeout and has the correct HG marking, denoting Hand Grip, following it.

The Hand Grip was a riot length barrel PGO model from which the Stakeout was derived.

Superbly easy to prove one way or another.
If its a factory original Stakeout, the shotgun receiver will display a HG suffix integrated with the serial number. This is short form for hand guard, not hand gun.
This information is printed in Walter Snyder's book entitled Ithaca Repeating Shotguns.

cheers

Ithaca needs to stick with their choice for a few years and do some advertising/marketing to let people know how good the quality is.

They jumped from 4 dealers/distributors in 4 years a few years ago. I was the second in that line LOL

Quality was amazing on them but people weren't buying. It's funny cause everyone complains about manufacturers racing to the bottom of the barrel for quality and price but unfortunately that's what sells for the most part.

People in the know are aware that gun builds consist of three areas, and generally you can only pick two of the three options: good, cheap, fast.

Ithaca really needs to market their products better

For example I was impressed at how they machine the entire barrel and lug from a single block of steel, no brazing, or how they source their wood blanks from the local Amish.

Its details like that that I'd be emphasizing if I had any say over there.
