Oh man you had to add that didn’t ya. This day and age, now that the kids are old enough, I would sleep more comfortable with a full mag and one in the chamber on the night table.
Somehow, the OP believed that the lack of a triggergroup somehow absolved him of his legal obligations under the Regulations. People talk about triggerlocks and cablelocks, but the Firearms Act doesn't use those words at all. I would argue that it is this mistaken focus on words that don't exist in the Regulations which is the root of the problem that led to the OP getting jammed up.
Storage, Display, Transportation and Handling of Firearms by Individuals Regulations (SOR/98-209)
<https://www.laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/PDF/SOR-98-209.pdf>
5 (1) An individual may store a non-restricted firearm only if
__(a) it is unloaded;
__(b) it is
____(i) rendered inoperable by means of a secure locking device,
____(ii) rendered inoperable by the removal of the bolt or bolt-carrier, or
____(iii) stored in a container, receptacle or room that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into; and
__(c) it is not readily accessible to ammunition, unless the ammunition is stored, together with or separately from the firearm, in a container or receptacle that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into.
Problem one: u have a Facebook account. I am guessing you might be 30 years of age, perhaps a bit less.
So automatically their fault if they have a FB account? My parents in their 60s have an account, my grandmother at 85 has a account.
You can pick and choose your settings on FB. I have FB and I don't bother reading what Liberal bull#### is on it. I just use to to communicate with old friends, share stupid photos, and I choose who I share my profile with. I have it set to friends only, so no friends of friends can view it. It can be used for what it was intended for.
Exactly what i use mine for. I am in late 60s and have had an account since it was "the facebook" and available to university people only. Just because you have a facebook account does not make you guilty, but that being said, you had better choose wisely what you post in today's environment.
Posting personal show off gun pics etc publicly is simply a recipe for someone to go all karen on you and if we have learned anything from this thread it is that it takes very little to end up in a heap of krap.
It's why people put locks on their plain, stripped AR lower in their safe, as redundant and ridiculous as that may seem.
I don't now since pretty new here but the few times going to the range it just made sense trigger locks were on. Open the storage cabinet put the trigger locked restricteds in their cases for transport. No further handling at home.
People need to bear in mind that police, in Canada, are not here to "protect and serve". As it says on their emblem, they are here to enforce the charter, which is (by extension) enforcing the law. They are not your friends, and the general policy is to lay charges and let the courts "sort it out". It ends up being perverse in practice due to the hostility typically found in the judicial system (unless you're a repeat violent offender, of course), and the "process is the punishment". The spirit of the law is rarely enforced at the outset.
This is not to say I am against police, or hostile to their difficult work in any way, simply that one needs to cover one's arse and be as free from reproach as possible. Know the law better than police and have your butt covered.

1-Never post anything (in fact dont even subscribe to )FB
2-Never allow F/U people like Ex's in your house
3-Never leave partial assembled firearms on the bench for days on end
4- NEVER say anything to the Police
5- ALWAYS get a good lawyer
So are fourms. But just because a person uses facebook doesn't mean they're falling for the bull####. You can choose what you do on it.
I don't like zuckerburger or his policies.
So I choose never to play his game by his rules.
It's a tool of the leftist elites.
And it's rusdian roulette putting your name out there with our chosen hobby.
The OP got bit by his own handiwork.
If u don't or cannot, or will not recognize this danger, we should cease this conversation while it's still civil.
