Make up my mind? T3x Lite SS in 6.5 CM or 308 Win?

This is stupid and I know it. But I'm really having a hard time choosing here.

Max range is 300 yards tops, so its not like long range ballistics matter.

Looking to go with 100gr TTSX and 127gr LRX out of the 6.5 or 110gr TTSX and 130gr TTSX from the 308.

Yeah they seem light, but light for caliber monos are pretty mean.

Sigh

With that light of bullets, consider a 243 or stick with the 6.5. I really like the 308 but with 150 gr bullets.

If they were lead cored bullets I'd totally agree with ya, Buck!

But a 180 grain bullet that loses 25% of its weight becomes a 139 grain bullet...and most of them lose a lot more than that. A 150 that loses 25% of its weight is 112gr

I hear you though. Really can't complain about the 100gr TTSX from a 6.5mm aroundn 3000-3100 fps. Impressive.

Course might just experiment and prove you right but that's half the fun ;) The 130gr Barnes is pretty highly regarded though.

Never tried 110 in .308win.
Might giggyyup go?
Bit light furr fur.

Gophers would be ah hewt.

Depends which 110, Kamlooky!

A V-max or Varmageddon might be best kept to rodents, but a mono that goes in at 110 and stays at 110, I think can do some good work on deer size critts and probably bigger.

Only experience with it so far is the 110gr Tac TX out of a 300 Blackout, which expands at lower speeds but...its a mean one.

17.25" of penetration in gel from a 9 inch barrel...a longer one makes even more impressive cavities in animals. And they hold together well.

The 110 TTSX is a tougher pill. Has to be at 3200 FPS in a milder load.

I am inclined to go 6.5, and I am a .308 fan too. I run my Kimber Montana .308 with 130gr T/TSX and have been happy with that combo. However, if someone wanted to trade me for a Montana 6.5 I would do it (or fast twist .243/6mm if they existed).

Hunting.

I'd be lookin heavy barrel for target rifles but not really my thing. Thanks for making sure I knew that though!

Hope the barrel would be good enough to shoot 10 shot groups without a ton of time to cool down though, doing load development/zeroing. But apart from that, probably trying not to chew up a 6.5mm barrel too fast lol

Target shooting? Hunting? For me it's a no-brainer. Forget the silly 6.5creed and get a rifle you can hunt anything on the continent with. Now, if you're a varmint hunter, my answer might be different (but it still wouldn't be a 6.5 creed).

I've heard some really good reports on the 130 TTSX in the 308....

Most of the people who use it seem to love it eh?

Barnes claims expansion at 1800 fps. Doubt its expansion anyone would be thrilled with, but even then, 2000 fps gets you quite a bit of range with it.

I just recently sold off my 6.5 Creed stash after a few years of playing, nothing wrong with the caliber just doesn't do anything the .308 can't within my distance.
I am planning on shooting this falls mulies with the Barnes 120gr TAC-TX at 2600fps out of my HAM'R and 3000'ish out of my .308
Looking to see if I can bridge the gap between a soft cup and core and the regular 130TTSX which I have used before.

Looks to dump beaucoup energy and shed petals but the back half just keeps on trucking for a pass-through...almost partition-like but no lead frag, best of both worlds maybe?

The 6.5 CM. It’s nicer to load for and shoot. That said, I’ve taken a lot of game with the 125gr ballistic tip in the 308. No complaints there either.

Both the 125gr BT and the Accubond have been positively lethal on multiple mule deer, some rather large bodied.
When my son was still younger I loaded reduced in .308/30-06 with BT's and they worked great, now he's bigger than me I just switched him to the AB version at full power and at 3200fps it just electrocutes deer similar to a .243 or 22-250 but will still bust through both shoulders if needed. Great bullets!

With those kinda speeds behind a fast opening bullet it must kill like lightning for sure. Have a feeling the 110gr Barnes at 3100-3200 fps does some good work too.

Your 120gr at 2600 sounds like a real winning formula as well. A Cutting Edge type effect at half the price lol

You nailed it Joel, that's exactly what I was thinking.

I suppose I could have started my son out with a .243 like the majority of dads do, but being a handloader and seeing what the 125gr BT would do from a contender carbine at 30-30 speeds I figured I'd simply start him off with a quality 30-06 rifle with a reduced load built around that bullet. The logic behind that was he could grow an emotional attachment to his lucky rifle and if he grew to love hunting as years past he could use the rifle for any game on the continent.
