Make up my mind? T3x Lite SS in 6.5 CM or 308 Win?

.308

IMHO, 6.5CM has nothing over the .308 at normal hunting ranges. OK, maybe recoil, but it’s not that dramatic.

I’ve been able to cook up some amazing 130gn TTSX loads for my Sig Cross pushing 3000fps from a 16” barrel while getting repeatable sub-MOA groups. Plenty of punch and impact velocity out to 400 yards. With the Tikka, I’d have to believe you could replicate that easily.

Hunting.

I'd be lookin heavy barrel for target rifles but not really my thing. Thanks for making sure I knew that though!

Hope the barrel would be good enough to shoot 10 shot groups without a ton of time to cool down though, doing load development/zeroing. But apart from that, probably trying not to chew up a 6.5mm barrel too fast lol
And that is where it gets interesting.
Barrel life is a thing in 6.5 not so much in 308. Both calibers are fun to shoot though.

It would book down to the Course you wish to use the Horse on.....

That would be the single most important Question, you , as a user, would need to clarify with yourself...

308 in my book.

They are 'boring' an don't have near the Dollar spent on them in Marketing PR circles, but Boy, do they just work.

Coming from a bush hunters perspective, the 6.5 isn't close

You know, I thought the same...but I am really looking forward to trying the 140gr 6.5mm ECX load, its a very long slightly blunt nosed, polymer plugged load made for European driven hunting. Its expanding very nicely for me in test medium at 100 yards and is showing good expansion way slower for others.

Think it will be a pretty good small or big critter load within shorter ranges.

:ROFLMAO:

What and where are you hunting?
Are you on a budget?
Are you recoil sensitive?
Will you be plinking as well as hunting?

308 is the go to for hunting anything sturdier than small whitetail....

6.5cr with correct loads will do the job hunting and is also less recoiling and leas expensive to buy commercially and or reload for
It has also become very popular so as mentioned will be an easier resale if that matters

Cant go wrong with either ....

If the rifle will be a lightweight or even something less than a varmint weight gun me Id opt for the 6.5cr for less recoiling sweeter shooting experience especially more so if also plinking or informal target shooting ....even some predator shooting

I have moved to 6.5cr for all these reasons ...as I age I am more recoil sensitive than ever

Barrel life in F Class target shooting Usally is well in excess of 2500 -3000 rounds easily. 👍

Iron Cat sent me a video from MDT where they shot a TON of rounds through a 6.5 Cm...like Battle of the Somme fast. Hundreds and hundreds. Dang thing still shot MOA after a good cleaning with I think 1000 rounds rapid fire through it?

Had my Tikka T3x out at the range today, man it shoots awesome. (y)

Those Precision Hunter loads are very, very impressive. I’ve fired around 200 in my W1885 in 6.5CM and am hard pressed to improve on their performance with hand loads so far. I love ‘em and have stock piled a couple hundred of those 143gr ELDX component bullets with the intention of seeing if I can come up with my own loads that duplicate Hornady’s factory loads. And I should be clear that by “performance” I mean consistency and accuracy. It’s pretty straightforward to duplicate the ballistic performance.
