Make up my mind? T3x Lite SS in 6.5 CM or 308 Win?

The Creedmoor certainly isn’t special in how it kills. But how it was marketed. From a 260 Rem user here I’m sure it works. But it was pushed from a target to a long range hunting cartridge. Which it is clearly limited.

Don't "hate" the Creedmor just not buying in to the hype that seems to surround just the Creedmor. It's really not that great.

What hype? Specifically what are you not buying and who's claiming it? And if it was "marketed to the gullible", it shouldn't be too hard to point out an exmple of false marketing?

Like the man just said, it was designed as a target round and is accurate. Then the makers began pushing it as a long range hunting round of which there were at least a dozen cartridges already in use which are superior to it for hunting use. Some folks decided they had to have one and ditched their 270's, 7mm's and 30 calibres. Bit of a head scratcher to me.

OK, so no one lied or said it can do anything it can't to. Its simply another choice on the market and one which some prefer and others do no, rather like any other cartridge.

That's a lot different from "hype that surrounds it" and "marketed to the gullible".

Hunting.

I'd be lookin heavy barrel for target rifles but not really my thing. Thanks for making sure I knew that though!

Hope the barrel would be good enough to shoot 10 shot groups without a ton of time to cool down though, doing load development/zeroing. But apart from that, probably trying not to chew up a 6.5mm barrel too fast lol

No sporter weight barrel is going to be optimal for shooting a 10 shot croup without budgeting 2 minutes to a half hour to do it, especially not a light barreled rifle.

What do you plan on hunting? Frankly either one is a fine choice for sub 300 yard hunting of deer sized animals.

Two minutes sounds fine!

I'd think any of them would be pretty reliable on moose out to that range really...or at least one can do just about anything the other can, hunting wise. Always interested in hearing experiences pro or con though.

Most of the moose I've killed were shot with 30-06 and really nothin special bullet wise so it doesn't seem to demanding. They fall pretty easily to less.

don't we hunt and love a ton of cartridges designed for military use? is that ok as people are sort of same size as animals we hunt?

anyhow it is special if you make a checklist of all desirable traits possible including from objective data for a ton of it....the 6.5 CM will check off more of them than just about any other and is maybe the most balanced and efficient use in the 41 grains of powder class going, its versatility essentially rolls everything good about all standard short action cartridges and long action 06 case based cartridges into one single option that is deadly accurate, deep penetrating, legs for days, fits in short action, affordable, off the shelf, future proof, barrel life, recoil energy, shoot ability.....it's endless...so yeah...it is special, it is the next 308 for the next century or more...and I won't own one likely, I like it's little brother off the x39 case, that efficiency formula for 21st century lets me do now with 30 grains of powder what used to take 41 grains or more lol but I'm not blind, I can read, do math, and hype doesn't impact me in any way....it is that special

for a reloader...nothing is special, a reloader can take any case around and makes it's versatility nearly infinite, and especially a reloader who has no prob changing barrels to twists required to apply same 21st century formula to any cartridge so it's easy to see why many don't get it and aren't impressed but when Joe blow can grab things off the shelf and push things to competition levels at 1000 yards etc. affordably and low recoil shoot ability that crosses over to outstanding big game hunting also and fits the most common platforms available...then we have definitely made progress and found special

did we need to sell our stuff to move to it? probably not, but nice to be free enough world to appreciate if needed but also new people get into this as we go, it's a top pick period, should be in nearly everyones top few list, to hate on it simply because one hates trends or hype trains is silly, especially if they never look into the objective side of things and researches the subject thoroughly before spouting off....we see that a lot in society, I hate going into arse kickin contests on only one leg, learned to avoid that long ago by doing homework first, then yapping ;)

This is what it comes down to for me, exactly. It offers a balance of traits and qualities that i like. That doesn't mean that other cartridges can't do certain ends of the spectrum better.

Yes, 270, 30 cals etc ca deliver more powder farther out.

Yes, Blakeyboy is knocking over all kinds of animals with the 6.5 Grendel burning less powder.

I don't take any of those as slights against a certain cartridge. They just ain't really where I want to be. Yes, the 6.5x55 Swede was first. No one hates on for 308 as being just a slightly lesser form of 30-06 but one that fits in all kinds of other platforms that the 30-06 can't lol. And that's not gettin into chamber dimensions, etc.

Go with 6.5. It pairs very well with a lightweight, fast handling rifle.

Think the 24.3" still qualifies as lightweight and fast handling? Seems to, from the specs. Been a while since I held/shot one in a longer barreled caliber and its pretty tough to find the 22.3" version in stainless.

unless you're trying to skid it off the console out the window onto your pool noodle...more weight out front is a good thing on the light ones ;)

and, shortening them is much easier than stretching them

Not my fault or the manufactures fault there too “ STUPID “ to study up the ballistics before buying ! Remember too Mike the same bullet out of a 6.5 CM as shot out of a 6.5 Swede at the same velocity kills the Same Its only a NAME ! RJ

Proud 6.5 Guy ! I have 6.5 Grendel - 6.5 Creedmoor - 6.5 Super Swede - (2) 6.5 x284 Norma’s -(2) 6.5 PRCs 👍 ;)

Have you put meat in the freezer with the 6.5 Grendel Jim? I'm sure you have for some reason lol

Buy both, honestly it’s the only answer. Anytime I have two things I’m trying to decide on and I don’t buy both, I always regret it and go buy the one I didn’t lol.

I would buy the .308 but if I wanted a 6.5 id scratch the itch as well, just me though. Guns don’t get cheaper either, I waited on something in the $1200-1400 range only for it to be hard find for a few years, now that they’re back in stock they’re between $1700-2000. Luckily I found one in near new condition on the used market for the old price, funny thing though was my other pick and second choice came up first and I bought it. When the first choice popped up a week later I had zero hesitation even though I wasn’t planning on buying two rifles at that moment. Buy both lol.

I’m going to be of no help here, as I’m a .30 Cal or .284 type of guy tbh.

While the Creedmore has a lot going for it, I’m generally an outspoken proponent against it for my own reasons.

When it comes to the 08, it may not be as flashy, flat or fast as the new wonder cartridges, but it’s just a steady, reliable performer out to distances most will not encounter afield.

Throw in these factors of a wider grain range of projectiles, easily acquired and reusable brass, common powders (even in these shortages) and a LONG(er) barrel life over the Creedmore.

What’s holding you back from the 08? Pick your bbl length and twist rate to suit your needs and shoot away, and keep shooting the same setup while the CM is on its’ second or third bbl….
