Was looking for something to do this morning so finally decided to get to one of my projects. I picked up a piece of 3/4” originally for motor mounts to try and stop the vibrations and noise. I thought I could possibly make a butt pad for my Jungle Carbine due to the deterioration of my original. I found a complete piece so this project was put on the back burner. Tools used are bench belt sander, files and sand paper. Piece was cut off the sheet with an Olfa knife. A bit of measuring and rough cutting with the Olfa to get close to size. Most of the shaping was done on the belt sander then onto files and sandpaper. I still need to do some final sanding with some finer grit but it looks like an original pad.

There are now some soft materials like TPU or PEBA for 3d printing... These could be a good use for them if you wanted to measure it while you have it out?

The No5 buttstock should have had a lot more practical thought put into it .
I put a No4 butt on mine and the No5 butt can sit in the drawer as far as I'm concerned.
Much more comfortable to shoot = more confidence .
Longer length of pull will visually tighten that ghost ring sight up .

I just saw an example of some 3d printed rubber like shoes last night..... pretty cool! Do these softer materials print out of the same printers as most people have or do you need a certain type?

OP, Nice work on the out of the box material sourcing and handywork!

On my printer (prusa) no changes from standard are required. I use a special nozzle for high temp printing most of the time and swap to the regular for soft materials.

There are replica replacements for the butt pad , but nothing replaces the satisfaction of manufacturing your own replacement parts.
Snider Shooter did an excellent job….

well the but pad was not designed for comfort, the No5 shortened and lightened rifle design was envisioned for airborne troops and the but pad was rubber so that it wouldn't damage the aircraft or cause sparks while the rifle butt was sitting on the floor.

nothing to do with soldier comfort. :)
