anyone ever hear or know how to make a norm lever slightly larger? i thought i read somewhere someone just heated it up with a torch and bent the metal so it had a gradual bend...??? anyone?

Yup, i had gotten a big loop for my 444 here on the forums and my cousin liked it. We could not find another one used so he made a little jig and used a torch to heat it and bend it. Not quite as big as the loop on mine but still comfortable to use with a pair of gloves.

If there is any such thing posted it's either dead wrong, the person that did it was a Bubba of the worst sort or you only got half of the story.

There's only so much metal around the loop. So if you bend it outward then it has to give somewhere else. So it'll get shorter.

Or if you actually knew what to do you could heat it and using the proper blacksmithing techniques you could hammer the metal out longer so it formed a longer loop. But then the metal in the loop would be smaller to make up for the stretching out. So that's not a good option either.

I have read of cases where the loop was cut and an additional piece was welded in and the metal hammer forged to restore the shape and give a larger loop. But at the cost of skilled labour these days that is able to do such work neatly it would be MUCH cheaper to simply order up a big loop to fit whichever rifle you have.

Anyone know if there is a large loop for the dominion arms 1887. Great fun but the loop is murder

Not with the 336, I did some bigger loops for the winchester 94 there was a thread in the hunting and sporting arms section, if you want to cut the loop, and find a piece of steel to weld in for the larger loop I can burn it together for you or any welding or machine shop in the city, though you will either need to paint it or get reblued, Brian Hogg with Accurate action should be able to weld and reblue it if you just want it done, he's in the NW of calgary and re-blued and did some work on my 45-70 enfield and he does good work for a decent price.

What ever happened with those levers? I was supposed to get one from you.

Been watching John Wayne movies have you? You want one of those daft John Wayne movie levers or just one that you can fit your mitts into more easily?
A torch will heat it in one wee spot and there will be little or no control.
Even with proper black smith techniques the lever steel will get considerably thinner in at least two places and it'd be weaker in those spots. Probably won't make much if any difference.
Whole lot less fuss buy a new lever. Mind you, that'd depend on what rifle you have.

I made two for my marlin 1895 a few years back search it up . Basically I just cut out the back used a little heat to open it and the welded in a new chunk shaped it up blued and your off to the range.
