making a substitute lee liquid allox

I've never used pittance in a sentence before, but that would be the amount I used.

ANDY: The beeswax and olive oil, this mix would work for tumble lube bullets?? Seems like another simple good enough recipe.

It can if there's enough Olive Oil in the mix and/or the temperature is high enough. The notion of "50/50" doesn't mean much without an explanation - I have tried 1/2 pound of Beeswax with 8 fluid ounces of Olive oil. Very messy and stinky and if you go even a bit hot to melt the Beeswax, the smoke starts. I recommend in a double boiler over boiling water, or very careful use of a hot plate on LOW. You are guaranteed to PO the wife/girlfriend. :p Lee liquid Alox and Beeswax 50/50 also makes a great lube, but its melting point is too high for tumble lubing - anything more than about 20% Beeswax, and it's essentially a solid at room temperature.

I still recommend Liquid Alox from Lee or the "White Label Lubes" stuff, but it is fun to experiment.

Guys, where you do you buy your Alox in Canada? Or preferably in the GTA? I'd rather try Alox first instead of Xlox. lol

I'm planning to cast 44 mag bullets. But now, realizing that I can cast 9mm bullets for my P226 at a cost of $2.50/box (free lead WW and brass - heck, even with bought lead, that's about $3.50/box), I have to try it this out! Shooting 9mm with reasonable load/accuracy at a cost of .22lr is priceless!

Now all I need is a bullet mold and limited accessories, test this out!

It's my understanding that "Alox" is a registered trademark owned by Lee and that "Xlox" is the same product. The stuff is cheap and is included if you buy a Lee sizing die kit (cheaper than getting into the whole sizing machine + lube dies and top punches). If you don't think that you want to resize your cast bullets, you can just lube in a margarine tub with Alox or Xlox and then let dry overnight on some wax paper. I don't know where you live, but if you are around 401 & Markham Road area during weekdays, I could give you a sample of "xlox" for you to try. If not, just buy the lube kit from Higginsons
