Is it legal? Probably not but since so much in the Canadian law hinges on "intent", you might be able to get away with it by claiming to be an idiot. As in, I just happened to piss on this heap of plant fertilizer/pest control mix, had no idea it could go KABOOM...
Is it wise though? It all depends on how safety-minded you are. I kind of recreated the experiment of Joe Amorosi recently, but with the primer mix for rimfire reloading (yes you can buy that). It was a reeeaaalllyyy small batch and I separated an even smaller portion to test, intending to save the rest for the job. One spark hit the main batch. WHASSHHH! Gone in a flash and a huge puff of smoke. Now if I was foolish enough to have my face closer to that, I would have been defaced. Over the course of my life I've gotten away with a lot of stuff that ordinary folks would call downright stupid, such as boiling acetone on a gas grill, or using a table saw to freehand-cut thrown-out Christmas trees for firewood, or ramsetting a safety enclosure around my gas meter (to prevent my modified, and therefore heavy, concrete mixer to accidentally smash into the meter or the gas pipes). I was OK because I did all this with *some* safety in mind. And even so I was able to set off a rather spectacular incendiary grenade in my workshop simply by taking apart a powerbank with a bunch of 18650's having forgotten that those were fully charged... the reason? I was in a hurry and upset.
So, the moral of the story -- if you're asking, don't do it. If you made up your mind about doing it, don't ask. (Shoot me a PM so I am not near you, just in case.)
As for "ah you googled / asked how to do it now you are on the watch list and **THEY**'d be crashing your front door tomorrow"... well... I call BS on that. (I did feel that way when I bought my first trigger lock - "ah the postman will have seen this, they'll report me", then my first BB gun, then my first rifle...) Judging by what I've been regularly googling, out of sheer curiosity, ranging from what happens if you shoot AA batteries out of a 12 gauge and all the way to why you should not make TATP at home, I must now be on all possible watch lists and under constant surveillance. Yet... no one was after me when I stealth camped in a hammock stretched between 2 tall trees in the nearby park (or was it someone's mansion back yard? I never cared to find out.) Nor when I made a simple thermite on my FRONT yard and happily watched it burn through stone. Nor when I... ok, I'll skip that one but it has the words "plumbing" and "crown land" in it.
The thing is, good cops are busy catching real criminals, and bad cops are, well, bad. Unless you do something very foolish such as injure someone, they would not give a rat's back orifice about how you choose to amuse (or abuse) yourself.
