ok im shooting a S&W 686 for IPSC and id like to now if there any loads out there that i can load to shoot major using 38spl

AFAIK, IPSC no longer allows any round to score major in standard or modified unless the bullet is .400 or greater. Do you really want to shoot a six-gun in Open???

Are you saying it won't be major in revolver either?

You'll have to overload your 38 spec probably or use something like +p minimum. Do a search on here there was a discussion about loading 38 spec to .357 mag velocities. I'm assuming you want to use cheaper .38 spec brass than the .357 stuff.

Look through loads in the books but ... you're basically looking for a 170gr bullet moving 1000 fps. I'm not quite sure any .38 spec load will get you there.

Check the IPSC rules appendex D5 . For STANDARD REVOLVER DIVISION there is no minimum caliber for major , just a minimum caliber of .355 to play, so 9mm is as small as you can go. Mind you very few mods can be done to the gun. Goto www.ipsc-canada.org look up rules appendex D5

Excellent! Glad to see .357 mag back in the game.
