Hi everyone,

Long time lurker, first time poster here. I bought a Grizzly 12.5 inch pump with bead sights as my do all shotgun and general bush gun. It's been extremely reliable, works well shooting clays and messing around in the woods. I want to try going for some grouse or squirrel or maybe even deer eventually. It also gives tremendous peace of mind in the tent at night. I have no real intention of using it for ducks, lol.

Its heavy though. I read before buying it that it was heavy but man is it heavy.

I would like to find some lightweight mods to make carrying it around the mountains easier but I've not had much luck. Has anyone here got some ideas?

I've read that the Hogue overmolded with the short LOP works great and is lighter so I may get that.

I've been researching a lightweight magazine tube but all I can find are extensions. I've looked everywhere. Has anyone ever heard of a lightweight replacement for the 870 magazine tube?

I would like to get a lightweight but durable forend that's well suited to a bush/camping gun. Any ideas?

I'm fairly new to shotguns in general and can't seem to find any lightweight internal parts or receivers. Is this a thing? I have a 10/22 and I can buy new internals and upgrades anywhere. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction for aluminum or other lightweight components for the remington 870? For canadians though

Hogue stock & forend. Drops a lot of weight and perfect for the bush.

You won't find lighter internals for the 870.

The Grizzly stock & forend are really heavy, just swap that out and you should be fine.
 
The Hogue furniture upgrade is your ticket. The OEM DA stock and forend weigh about a gazillion pounds. I have the 12" LOP Hogue stock on and it is light and handy, but you have to alter your grip so you don't punch yourself in the nose. If you forget on the first round you will quickly adapt. Awesome set up though, can't say enough good about it.
 
Yeah, what is up the DA stock? I was at a buddy's place a while back, and he had an 8.5" grizzly, and I had my 18.5" 870, and his grizzly was definitely heavier. Do they place lead weights in there or something?
 
This is great! Thank you for the advice folks, I will definitely be getting the Hogue stock.

Any help with some other items? It is a pretty great shotgun but I can always use an excuse to get more upgrades!
 
The Hogue forend might take a little elbow grease to install fyi, and the threads on the stock bolt might might be different so don't throw out the norinco one just yet. A no jam follower is nice but not always necessary. Just sit in front of the TV and rack the action a few thousand times to help smooth it out.
