Making the GSG-16 look old school

Thought I would gut two airsoft guns and see what I could do. So far I'm getting good results.

The fore end is from a VFC gas blow back MP5. It required only one hole drilled in the material between the barrel and charging tube assembly for the cross pin. To install I simply slide the aft end over the two horizontal nubs that the old fore end support was attached to and then insert the HK style cross pin at the front. Tight as a bank vault.

The butt stock is from a G&G electric airsoft MP5. It is all metal except the rubber butt plate. It's fit was excellent with only minor grinding required just above the sliding portions on the but cap assembly. Just to get it to slide on far enough to engage the HK style pin. This setup is more solid than the GSG original and has no wobble.

Next will be to see a buddy about replacing the top rails with a curved 3D printed insert to give it that old school appeal.

Yup. That lower is exactly the same internally as the gsg lower except the safety selector hole was smaller, and had no cut out for the trigger housing block.
 
Thanks Jay. There is more on the way. I am waiting delivery of a parts kit that will swap out most of the non MP5 details into a more authentic 80's MP5. Will post more pics as the gun develops.

moe, i like what you have done with the HG, just changing the stock and HG makes it look alot better.

all you really need are sights, is there anything that will replicate the mp5's?

Thanks for the nice complements. The GSG 5 / 522 conversion kit will change the charging tube, grip, and front sight to what it should look like as an MP5. There are few out there and at this moment I see only a few US retailers with them in stock and none of them will ship to Canada. So ship to your buddy in the US or get IRG involved. Have found them as low as $20USD. This will leave me only working out something for the rear sight. There are HK style sights that attach to a pic rail but would rather something else.

I want to bring attention to Wal-Mart Greeter. He does good work for the CGN GSG 16 community. I believe he is now working on the old school fore end and hood for the front sight. Once he gets these out that will bring the gun to an even closer level for the masses.

I have avoided them. Don't have one and not likely to get one. The same drum exist with a different tower for the 10/22. It has a lot of problems in the 10/22. I don't see it performing much different in the GSG 16. I hope I'm wrong but I'm not holding my breath.

Picked my drum up today, ran 3 full loads through it running bulk Thunderbolt ammo and everything ran like a dream. I didn’t have one of the drums you’re talking about but I would guess that it’s improved.

My first time loading one took nearly 20 minutes because I managed to jam it up by pushing too far on the loading lever, causing rounds to tumble around in the tower. I'll have to try it again a few more times but I can confidently say it will never be as fast as loading a standard stick magazine.

20mins? sheet... I guess one could buy 10 drums, and fill them up over the week, then go mad on the weekends and empty all of them :)

Most of that time was spent struggling to clear the jam(s). If the proper technique is used then it would only be a few minutes.
