Male or Female Chocolate Lab ?

every chocolat lab ive ever met has always been much bigger than other colors on average. very strong with great stamina not as agile as a golden.

ive had 2 golden females now, one is 10 the other is 16:eek:
they are very docile and it can be a challenge to keep them out of water(i swear these dogs are part fish!) the elder one once let a baby stick its fingers up her nose and just sat there and whined:p. if we had not loved her so much she would be a seeing eye dog. the other holds a record swim of 2 hours, barrel chested not very quick on land but has a hobby of lifting 40 pound rocks from shallow streambeds and making piles on the shore. thats with no retrieval training, just shows that this breed is a natural bird dog!

I agree totally. Chocolates always seem to get bigger so a female might be an advantage just from a size perspective. Labs do have joint trouble later in life so the smaller and lighter they are, the better off. Also if you get a male neutered at 6 months he shouldn't mark at all especially with a little encouragement not to lift his leg. I have a 2 year old male black lab and he is well mannered and always willing to learn and please. BTW he figured the whole bird hunting thing out by himself.

I got my pup yesturday. He'll be 7 weeks old on the 18th. (born feb 29th) Leap year pup heh. I called him Jake and he's been real easy going so far. Very smart and he weights 14lbs. Almost 3 times as much as my cousins female yellow lab
