Just curious, how many of you have ever experienced a malfunction of any sort with your Black/Green gun.

If you could fill out this little template to let me/us know what could have played a factor in the failure it would be appreciated.

Weather: Sunny day
Comment: Failure due to incorrectly seated mag. No other failures.

Comments: sometimes it just hits the primers too softly
 
If you have not had a stoppage with any semi then you dont shoot enough. Its like asking have you ever had to pee lol
 
Ar-15 stoppages are probably magazine related 90% of the time, I've also had dust stop the bolt from going completely forward and broke a cocking handle before.

I've only had induced stoppages with my 858 so far...I have found it to be reliable but my round count is low: roughly 1400 rounds through it to date.

EDIT FEB 19 2010:

Around 2000 rounds I had a failure to reset the trigger.

I was shooting yesterday and "soft shouldered" a shot for some reason. I don't know exactly why but I took a very casual shot at a close target without pulling the stock in to my shoulder at all...just swung the rifle up and pointshot for no particular reason. Good hit on the target but then I discovered the trigger had not reset, although the empty ejected and the new round fed fine. Very strange! I thought I had hit the "gremlin" but then put another 180 rounds through the rifle with no problems. Not sure what to make of that.

Malfunction at the Junction

Make/Model of firearm: Bushmaster XM15-E2S
Type of malfunction: Round would only chamber 3/4 way. Very difficult to pull back on the charging handle to eject the round.
Type of lubricant: CLP
Type of ammo: Winchester 55 or 62 gr.
Brand of Mags: Various
Round Count since last cleaning: Maybe 20
Total Round count: Over 1500
Meteorological factor: Early morning, sunny
Comments: It was the first round out of the mag. I hit the bolt release and like I indicated, the bolt did not fully close and it took a lot of effort to pull back on the charging handle to eject the cartridge. Inspection of the cartridge revealed it to be bend. Not sure what caused this but it was not like this when loaded into the mag. Rifle shot flawlessly for about 60 rounds after that.

Comments: Same as Jody v. Rd failed to load completely into the chamber. Have only come across this with that particular brand of ammo. Had it happen with a few of those rounds, and heard about more. On inspection, the rds that ftf had an enlarged shoulder. Fairly certain it was an ammo issue.

Lots of other malfunctions with lots of different firearms/mags/ammo... nothing worth mentioning.

I know, I know. The 30-M1 isn't considered a Black'n Green. But it's been nickeled & sports a pistol-grip Choate stock. It's the most funnest :D carbine I own and it's sorta black. So sue me...:p
 
C7 with blank: about 15 stoppages, all of which appeared to be mag and / or cartridge shape issues. This was back in the era when we were issued ti disposable mags, and the 5.56 blank had really "square" tips.

I also had one terminal stoppage with a C7, when I pulled to charging handle right out of the rear of the receiver: i.e. - The part broke. I am NOT a big, powerful man.

C7 with ball ammo: at least one fail to fire (primer?), and one double feed during automatic fire - again, probably mag related. Issue CLP was used, and the rifle was always cleaned within 100 rounds. Issue ammo, whatever it was.

With my own Swiss PE90, I have been unable to make it stop. I haven't quite tried Sig's torture test, but I have run it for 500 rounds+ without cleaning, in a variety of climate conditions, with a variety of .223 and 5.56mm ammo.

I had a KA-BOOM with a Colt AR-15 in the late 80's. It was with factory ammo too.

The 30 round magazine flared open at the bottom and all the rounds spilled out. I felt the concusion on my face too.

The rifle wasn't damaged, the mag was destroyed.

Upon inspection the case had a crack in it from the mouth down to the shoulder.

Comments: Every couple of hundred or so shots a spent case would fail to eject clear of the chamber and prevent the bolt from returning all the way forward again. A friend purchased a 550 at the same time and had the same issue except with his rifle it occurred every twenty rounds or so. He returned his, I kept mine. The problem just seemed to stop after a couple of thousand rounds and has never had a malfunction in the twelve thousand or so shots since.

Comments: There was no pin holding the gas tube in the front sight base. The gas tube moved. Gas was venting and insufficient gas was getting through to consistantly cycle the carbine. Once repaired not a problem.

I haven't had any malfunctions with my L1A1 or my Norinko Type 56, but I don't shoot them a lot.

C7s don't really count unless you own the C7 (which would be impossible, right?). I've had plenty of stoppages with many different C7s. It's almost to be expected, especially on a course when it's a "recycled" C7 that has been in the hands of many.

Round Count since last cleaning: every 200 rds or so
Total Round count: maybe 6000 or 7000 total
Meteorological factor: -
Comments: never had a single problem even when uncleaned, full of dirt or wet

This was 1991.... They were brand new at the time.
