Mallard Invasion

I agree - the northern mallards, with a little time and effort - clean up as well as any chicken....!

Nice looking bird with narry a pellet hole in the breast meat.
A skill like this (plucking) comes with some patients and skill developed over time.
Thanks for sharing the pic.
Do you roast them with or without stuffing?
Buddies dad would use apple sauce, sausage meat and an egg mixed in with other spices and roasted...man they where great to feast on in the blind waiting for the birds to decoy.

And the final product - plucked, singed and gutted. I remove the Pope's nose as that area has the smallest feathers and offers little in the way of edible meat..
And no pellet damage to the breast or thigh meat - I take em once they have landed on the water, hit'em in the head and back....takes a little patience but well worth it when they arrive on the dining room table...

Cheers!

Well Done, Scott_R. The ducks around Humboldt have headed south about 3 weeks ago. Envious, I would have liked to get in one more shoot. BTW how did your draw elk hunt go? Care to start another thread about that?
