Man eats goose that walked into his yard

Right?
When squirrels in my backyard were destroying my cherry trees. I thought it would be legal to trap and eat them since they were busting up my property. But I guess it would have been considered hunting off season…

I'm allowed to kill squirrels/chipminks out if season if they're causing damage. Know a guy caused 1000$ in damages to his truck, after chewing a fitting on his gas tank.

No, I haven't and sure it sounds like they're busy or whatever. But if they had to spend time in court and preparing for this, that takes a lot more time than just giving a warning.

Maybe you have more CO’s in Ontario than we do in BC, last I heard we had 2 for the region I’m in. They didn’t seem to be all that interested in what I had to report or need clarification on. Can’t say I’m all that interested in calling them again.

"King's goose" - in our case, a "King's tree" - neighbour and I have adjoining lots that butt up to Crown Land. A 60 foot (20 meter) tall poplar tree on King's land fell over in wind storm across the corner of our property and landed with very top branches on neighbour's property. I suggested to wife to contact the King to deal with the mess "his" tree had created. If she tried, still waiting for answer. In mean time, neighbour, his brother, another neighbour and I bucked it up and cleaned up. I am 68 and was youngest involved - took quite a bit longer to do than it would have, even 10 years ago, but we all got to play with our nice toys - you know - "guy stuff" like chain saws, skid steer loader, side-by-side, winches, rigging, etc.

The original land grant for my farm says that I own all timber on the land except for white pines. They belong to the king (I believe at that time it was William III) because the Royal Navy needs all the white pines from the empire for masts.

Yes - I had read that was not uncommon in old days - Crown somehow "owned" everything in the realm - gave out land / minerals, etc. as grants - but was common for British monarch to claim continuing ownership of specific trees for that Royal Navy. In this case, the stump is clearly on "crown" land, not on our titled lots. I think there is centuries of British common law about tree / branches / fruit / leaves from one property falling onto a neighbouring property - who owns or is responsible for what. We are just a crew of grumpy old men - there was a mess and it needed to be cleaned up - is done now - really do not know or care "who's" responsibility that was to do. One old guy ended up with some fire-wood for heating his garage, sooner or later. I think most Manitoba winters he goes through 4 or 5 times that volume of fire-wood.

That stump is about 16" diameter where we cut it off - not a huge tree in some parts of Canada, but considered decent size white poplar in this part of Manitoba.

If they allowed this there would be herds of immigrants with machetes walking though soccer fields in Scarborough then selling them in unsanitary and dusty markets.

Lol .... once the goose realize .... how many goose do you think those migrants will get with machetes?

Zero!!!!!!!

Those city goose are not afraid of humans because they are not hunted ... and the country goose know better ....

But the city goose can learn quickly .....

What a waste in taxpayer's money ....

As if he didn't know what she was doing. He wanted his 15 minutes of fame. Just didn't expect there would be consequences involved.

That’s right. Just like the clowns near Dryden a few years back that boated out to a swimming cow moose and one guy jumped on and rode her while his buddies video’d it and put it on Utube. Didn’t take the CO’s long to find them with the boat registration in the video, lol.
Not too smart…

Years ago Golfed with fellows that were regulars at prospect lake.gc in Victoria. Tried shooing flock of.canada geese that were grazing on the front of the tee box. Back before you walk back to tees. So one guy just tees off. You guessed it, worm burner, smoked a goose right in the head.

He took it home to eat it. Guts crawling with worms. So he buried it in the garden. Got the attention of coons. No $500 fine though.

"guts crawling with worms" - that was my first thought when the article mentioned the goose may have been sick.

While the man broke the law, that much is clear. His daughter betrayed her family, and while that's not against the law. It sure makes me dislike her over her goose killing father.
