Man fights off and kills lynx with bare hands

Actually I was not.

I originally replied to this post talking about the nature and weight of lynx from my personal observations.

After that, someone posted a somewhat large cougar being held by an individual...and I simply joked about the fact having him around to help loading a deer in the back of a truck...you my friend twisted it around...but all good.

Sorry this got derailed...certainly was not my intent.

No harm done, you just quoted my post so I assumed it was directed at me. Just miscommunication.

 :weird:  I thought this was about a man killing a Lynx with his hands and now some are talking about white tails?
Am I the only one confused here now?
Anyone got hunting stories about chasing the elusive Lynx?
Rob

One of the least exciting hunts a fellow can partake in, at least in northern BC, unfortunately. Most of the time they will let you walk to within a handful of yards of them, I'll have to upload the video I mentioned of following one several yards away. They are pretty confident and curious creatures, and I've been near many, many of them. Not one has had the least interest in me as a food source, and it wouldn't end well for the cat if they tried to eat a healthy male human. I've successfully rifle hunted them, and since have lost any interest in killing them as they are just so fearless. Enjoy looking at Lynx more than shooting Lynx personally. This said all the more power to those who enjoy the hunting as well, they likely act differently in more populated areas.

It's interesting though, they are likely the most difficult of all cats for hounds to tree. Even good cougar hounds can be made look like fools by a lynx.

Yes!.... and nothing can be more of a pita when you ar etrying to hunt cougar than a lynx.... man... all that running..... lol

Think we might be talking about two different things...at my age, for anything but a cat to be a cougar...there isn't going to be any running ;)

My cougar hunts were over dogs with guides.. get your ass to the treed cougar before it tears up the dogs was the motiffe..... On a few of them the dogsb sniffed and chased lynx and run is in crazy circles..... I'm not 20 and a soldier anymore..... lol

Think you might have missed my poor attempt at humour but yes, running cats is a blast...that I'm still not too old to do....lol

I have several videos like this walking along after them, this is an old iPhone video and anyone who's used one knows how it makes things look even further away than they actually are- and as you'll see the cat looks darn close already. In areas where they aren't familiar with people or pressured, they'll sit down and look at you a half dozen yards away trying to figure you out. Where this one was, a seasonal road had gone in for the first time likely in its life. Didn't know what to make of me.

For better or worse, hunting them in Northern BC looks just like this, and it lost its shine for me quickly. Saw a Lynx just today as a matter of fact as well.

I've been told by a ex-trapper that I see as a patient, that lynx makes decent table fare. I have never tried it, but apparently the meat is milder in flavour and less tough than cougar (of the feline variety).

I thought that I would also mention that I donated a seizable quantity of the above cougar to the Devon F&G club, which will be served at the upcoming annual banquet in March (I believe).
