Man jailed for sabotaging hunter s tree stand causing 15 foot fall

Glad the guy got caught!

At different times I've had two tree stands stolen (public land), two trail cams stolen (private land) & one of my tires slashed (public land).

Each time I've marvelled at the perp's audacity...

Now I no longer put out trail cams...

Should have hit him with attempted murder. The either guy was lucky to be still alive a walking after a fall like that.

####ing Cnnt ... Theres enough deer in Michigan for all.
Instead of wasting his efforts sabotaging the tree stand, why didn't the A-hole just borrow and use it himself.
Hope he enjoys his stay.

After a SIM card, and batteries went missing in 2021. I bought a SPYPOINT in off season on clearance. Started running an old broken decoy cam at ground level right where I want pics taken. Then put the satellite camera up high in a tree pointed at decoy. Don’t use a strap and try to hide it in the tree where there’s a fork or branches so people don’t notice as they’re walking in. I did move it once someone noticed it. Day one of rifle season an old timer followed the drag marks from my archery deer the evening before. Had him on camera several minutes including looking at the decoy without batteries or a SIM card before he confusedly looked around and noticed the satellite camera. Many really good pics sent to my phone. Him or someone in his group warned every other group in the area. Everyone I met on the trail or at trucks was asking if I was the guy with the satellite camera.

Seemed to keep people honest though. We had less sketchy #### after that than any other year.

Camera straps are give aways for anyone looking to steal a camera and i have lost some. I use dead cameras as decoys as well with another camera watching them.

I have made these DIY camera holders for using trail cameras for surveillance on my deer property. I now use a wing nut on the 3/8 bolt to tighten and adjust the camera. I also like to use longer eye screws to make sure I have the camera well secured into the trees as I have had bears climb up and inspect the camera. I like putting the camera 12 -15' off the ground as it makes detection less noticeable. Here is the link that you can print out for the parts list:

EDIT: make sure you get a couple cans of flat paint in different colours and spray after you make them up. If you leave them in the shiny metal finish they stick out like a sore thumb. here are some I just finished:

I use that exact same idea for my camera mounts. A friend found that site and made up a few. We put an upside down wing nut on the stem going into the camera just like you described. Eliminates the strap and has better adjustment….

I actually think that’s what gave my SPYPOINT away in my above story. I made a 3 sided cover out of windshield washer jug. Keeps the rain and snow off, and helps with morning dew. I never painted it. Sticks out like a sore thumb if a person starts to actually look around.
