Manhurin MR73

Nice score Graeme!

I also got the email that they were in but was initially told that they were going to have the finger grooved wood grips, like the ones trade ex got a week ago, but the ones available had the Trauch rubber and no ETA for wood grips. Was also looking to get the extra rear sight blades in the box, surprisingly they don't come with extra blades either.

Might wait to get one with wood and extra blades. I have a spare MR73 9mm conversion cylinder waiting in the part bin!

Yeah, I was a little disappointed about the grips too (although the Trauch on my 88 are nice to shoot). Then i decided after waiting this long the thing to do was get the gun and worry about grips afterwards. I figure I can always order a set of Nils.

Tradex ones had Nil grips, extra sight blades and different barrel profile (full underlug) and were $500 more than these ones. For me I want a different sight blade and may end up with some Nil grips but I actually prefer the standard barrel profile.

I hear you, the MR73 at Tradex was a special ordered heavy barrel with a full length underlug, the regular barrel profile on the 5¼" barrel has a partially full length underlug that ends about ½" before the muzzle end. The 4" barrel has the full length under lug that goes to the end and the 6" version that same beveled underlug of about 1" from the muzzle end.

The Trausch rubber grips @ 70€ Vs. the Manurhin Nill wood grips @ 295€. Comes down to about $300 CAD extra for the wood grips alone, add the extra sight blades and it makes the $500 price difference nearly justified.

Personally, I would gladly put the extra $500 to have the Manurhin medallion Nill grips and the extra sight blades with a 5¼" MR73. Getting these grips will probably be close to $500 all in anyway.

Do you have the "Match" sights? I have blades and front sights for the "Match" sights. I also have a lot of parts and screws for the MR73 as I was the agent first for Canada and then North America for MMD. The MR73 and MR88 are now made by Chapuis who bought all the tooling etc some years ago.

Got a set of Nills grips from the US distributor......"Phil Hemphill's" with a slight palmswell. They are an amazingly precise fit....have to be lined up perfectly to go on and the seam is nearly invisible.
I think they really improve the looks although it's hard to tell with crappy cell phone photos (sorry about that!)

Very, very nice set of Nills you got there Graeme. Looks even better than the Nills that come from Chapuis-Manurhin. Congrats! Now, let me know how it shoots compared to your other hi end revolvers and particularly the MR88 you had.

Thanks Phil. I'm ashamed to say that between rimfire steel challenge shoots and getting my feet wet in IPSC this spring I haven't had it out yet. I guess revolvers tend to be more indoor, wintertime guns for me.

Yes much better with the Nills. Regardless, another great addition to the collection.

Shot it a bit today. Not really much to say except......:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d

DA is about 8 lbs but incredibly smooth with a very crisp break. I was shooting IPSC targets at about 15 yards and had no trouble getting 95+% alphas while shooting rapid fire.

Gun points naturally and the Nills grips fit my hand well. They are quite large though. I take an L to XL in gloves and I wouldn't want them any bigger.

Glad that you like it! How's the accuracy and trigger pull in both DA and SA compared to the MR88 you had a few months ago?
