I've been out several times now since the season opened....Manigotagan, Stead Forest, and twice this weekend in Belair Forest ( North Star Trail and associated trails)...total flushes..3
Total hours 32!!!

Never experienced so few birds ever. These are all locations where I've taken or flushed birds year after year.

My pointer is well trained and experienced but we're coming up with low counts.

How are other Manitoba hunters fairing???

Yuck, not good news at all. Those are some of the places I was thinking of trying this year cause the places I used to find them has been very poor the last couple of seasons.

My father just moved to Northern Manitoba and is seeing tons of grouse. Mostly spruce grouse. Way more than back here on the East Coast.

I've been out in the Sandilands last couple Saturdays and have not seen a single grouse yet. Spent about 6 hours each time driving, walking and no luck. Only been in the mornings so far so next time will try the evening hunt. Vegetation is very thick still too.

When growing up in Winnipeg and spending lots of time on the farm in the Arborg area, I was always hunting the Interlake region with very good sucess. I don't know if the population is in their down swing or not, but the Interlack region always produced.
