Is it true that in Manitoba, you can hunt biggame with a .22 centerfire:confused:
I just want to clarify something I heard at from a guy at work.
I know most provinces have a rule of some sort, such as minimum size of bullet & length of cartridge.
Thanks All:)

Don't know about Manitoba, but Ontario says any centre fire. As daft as that is. You should be able to find out for sure in the Manitoba hunting regs.

Yup, the rule is as long as it is a centerfire you can hunt big game with it. Just because it's law doesn't mean it's ethical though. You could hunt moose with a hornet, I suppose if you wanted to, there is nothing legal that can be said against, but I can say I'd never hunt with somebody who wanted to do something like that.

Here in NB you can hunt anything you want with a 22 centerfire, including deer and moose, but there is no provision in the law to use calibers larger than .224 after moose season or the tag is cut from your deer licence.

Hey WW, welcome aboard.

I believe you have to ask for permission to use the Exchange forums. Right underneath the Exchange Forums header, is a line that says "Click here for permission to access forums". Do that.

Im trying to imagine a bull moose trying to be taken with a 17 Remington centerfire. 25 grains ...oh ya no sweat that will kill effectivly....NOT!(LOL)

From the Manitoba hunting guide

"A centerfire rifle may be used to hunt big game. A centerfire rifle of .23 calibre or less is not recommended."

Also you may not use a centerfire rifle for upland game birds.
