We'll have the match notice posted soon, for now check out the rulebook online.

Here's a brief synopsis drawn up by Longshot:

12 stages from 100-500m. They are broken up into 4 types. Deliberate. Snap. Rapid. Rundown.
You shoot this exact series at 200m, 300m and 500m. Only 2 shots are ever fired at 400m and they are only on the 500m rundown.

Deliberates are 2 sighters and 10 on score on a fig 12 on a 4 foot frame. The face changes at different distances(bull gets bigger)Time is 9 minutes.Scoring is V,5,4,3,2.Possible 50.

Snaps are shot on a fig 12 on a stick(except at 500m).Timing is X10 3 second exposures,1 shot per exposure.Scoring is V,5,4.Possible 50

Rapids are shot on 2x fig 11s one meter apart center to center(except at 500m).1x 30 second exposure in which the firer will adopt the required position and fire 5 shots at each target with a mag change somewhere in there.Scoring is V,5,4. Possible 50.

The fire with movement phases are different for each distance. At 200and 300m you run 100m with a loaded but NOT readied rifle(mag on but action forward on an empty chamber)and fire your shots in snap-like timings(targets exposed for short periods).
At 500m you fire 2 shots, put the safety on, run to 400, shoot 2, safety on, run to 300, shoot 2, safety on, run to 200, shoot 2, safety on, run to 100m where you fire your final 2 standing.

Timings vary but generally each run is alotted 35 seconds before targets start coming up.
Targets are usually fig 12 on a stick however the 5-100 rundown uses a fig 12A on a 4 ft frame at 5 and 4 and then changes to a fig 12 on a stick at 3-100m.
Scoring is V,5,4,3, on the 4ft frame and V,5,4 on the 12 on a stick.

I'm pretty sure there will be as many m14's as ar's. This is going to be a mostly for fun, so bring what you want. I'm sure if we let Russ, he'd bring the 1919.....

What sort of equipment would you recommend for this type of competition? Is it a course where semi-auto 223's dominate?

Something reasonable accurate out to 500m should be fine. I'd say the best criteria would be a rifle you are comfortable carrying at a decent pace for 500m and still shoot from the standing. Something that can take a bit of abuse would be ideal. Just keep it simple and rugged, stay away from things like optics that are questionable. Elcans die on these all the time.

If this run down is conducted as I remember them you can have up to 15 shooters on the line at one time and you start running when the targets go down. Depending on how fast you are the targets will most likely re-apear when you are at the 50 to 75 yard point in your run. The trick is to pace yourself so you have enough time to shoot when you get to the line but not so hard that you can't hit anything. Remember you also have to conduct mag changes in that time as well.

Colleen was up for that Nato compition again but she didn't get picked so thats out of the way. But my kids Cadet corp Annual inspection is that day so until I get more timings on that things are up in the air.

I've got stuff on the go on the Sunday as well. I still haven't given up on the service rifle match. I've been hoping the Mpra would start shooting these matches for a long time and I don't want to miss out.
