Hello fellow hunters,

Just this past week while finalizing my hunting trip I received information that the property that I have been hunting on for the past 4 years out in Souris (where my father in law took me hunting for the first time and where I got my first buck) will sadly not be available this year for a Rifle hunt as the owner who is a family friend is looking at selling.

Having booked off the week of Nov.11th with a friend we are now in a bind. The property I've been hunting has been used for outfitting in passed years and is what you might call a heavily hunted area which has always lead to 3-5 day hunting trips with visual of only 1-2 deer between 3 fellas. So I am sure any area would be an improvement in terms of seeing something.

We are looking for suggestions for areas that are available for white tail hunting in Manitoba. Since we have the whole week we are fully open to travel some distance to a location.

Any input would be greatly appreciated :D

Guys at work seem to like the Sandilands and Whiteshell areas. I hunt all family owned land, so that's about all I can offer other than scouting and door knocking. Or find a piece of out of the way Crown land.

If you go to area 23, they are actually providing free deer tags, for bucks or does, shoot one, submit biological sample, and get another tag. No limit on tags until they are gone. I believe the link ( if it works) http://www.manitoba.ca/conservation/wildlife/hunting/western_control.html

I called and its goes from north side of riding mountain national park to highway 5, and I believe the lady fro the CO office said roads 130 - 150 (ish) They are worried about TB. I live in the Virden area and there are some excellent areas to hunt around here. The Lauder sandhills are prime ( crown ) , as is Spruce woods near Carberry ( though I have never done it myself) Hope that helps, if you need more info, send me a message.

Area 23 does have the extra tags but good luck finding a deer up there - was just there for 2 weeks and didnt see one. Head to the WHiteshell or even the sandilands area out in the eastern part of the province and you should have easy access to Crown land.

Really appreciate the help. I mapped out a few spots based on the suggestions. Leaning towards Lauder or Whiteshell now. I will definitely look into more on the area 23 (looks like 23a is also included) to see if its worth a trip out for the extra tag.
