These are beautifull rifles. I passed on buying one a little while ago. Ammo being the reason. The only factory ammo I could find was from Epp's in Orillia Ont. They can import it from a co. called Dangerous Daves in the States. It is not cheap! I think you could cut down and reform 8x57 mauser brass. But I am not 100% positive. Good luck. 8X56R is sold as loaded commercial ammo by Hornady, and can be obtained through a dealer who carries Hornady ammo. Give a call to any local shops you can access, they may not be aware it's available, but check around.
"...Dangerous Daves..." Used to be Old Western Scrounger. They want $49.95 per 20. It is made from 8mm Mauser brass though. Epps will have it or will be able to get it. There's a guy in Petawawa(valleyguns.com) who is auctioning 50 rounds of ammo. Likely berdan primed. Current bid is $59.99.
I'd buy a copy of Cartridge Conversions. Mind you, getting dies will be a chore. Midway wants $133.99US for RCBS dies with a 90 day plus Special order time. $20US for a Lee dies set. Then you'll have to find some suitable .329" jacketed or .330" cast bullets.

Wow really? I thought Hornady, Graf, Hawk, Woodleigh and DKT, as well as a few European makers who have been making 329 and 330 bullets for years, including the ones now making 205 and 206gr bullets were pretty close.oldbadger said:

Sorry to sound testy folks, but this is all OLD NEWS, solid sources for reloading supplies have been out there for over a decade, and since we are all on the internet since we are making these posts, it behoves us all to remember the internet is our friend, and makes finding everything easy. There is no need to keep pretending the 56R is some obscure round that is impossible to find or reload, cuz it ain't.
8 x 56R Mannlicher Ammo, for the straight pull M95 is rimmed. 8 x 57 is not. You cannot make 8 x 56 from 8 x 57.
Hornady is making ammo for this and many other milsurp calibres. However, a company in the US, called Graf and Sons, has the exclusive distributorship for this ammo. Grafs does not ship to Canada, but they do have dealers up here. The two that I have dealt with are Raynorshine and BC Redneck. They have ammunition, ready to go, or they have reloading components, like brass and bullets.

Surplus Ammo - almost never see it anymore, certainly no reliable supply
New Ammo - very hard to find, and very expensive.
If you don't reload and don't intend to, hang it on the wall and read no further.

Bullets - they are 0.329". Hornady makes them, Lee makes a mold, or you can take a jacketed Speer 338 and swage it down with the Lee 0.329" sizer. My bores run 0.330-0.332", so I had Lee make up a 0.332" sizer and I size down 338 cast bullets.
Dies and Loads - Lee sells dies and they come with loads.
