Mannlicher Schoenauer 6.5X54??

I got a Mannlicher Schoenauer Carbine 6.5X54 today but I have some questions about the gun. The carbines are listed with an 18 1/4" but when I measured it with a rod like the verifier measuremet it came out to around 17 1/2". I don't have much information on these guns so any help would be appreciated.
How do you determine the model of a Mannlicher Schoenauer Carbine? There seems to be a few variations and little information.

The receiver has Patent Mannlicher Schoenauer 1903 but in one of my books they list an 18 1/2" carbine but none with just 1903. These are confusing, it's like a whole different world out there.

I'd call it a Model 1903. Wouldn't be surprised at slight variations. Incidentally, you are lucky to have the Lyman Model 36 sight on it. These are rather hard to find, and desirable to anyone with a M-S.

M1903, these had many variants, including custom-built ones. Those 6.5x54 M-S rifles are really very nice firearms, and those long 156/160 grain round nose bullets penetrate like there was no tomorrow. Regards, Eagleye

Very classy rifle, In my opinion the ideal bush rifle, the caliber is pretty well ideal for the Deer hunter, I really wish it had become more popular.

That was the rifle I first started hunting with when I was a kid, though mine had a regular sporter stock, and only irons. I loved this gun. My dad wanted to move my into a gun that had a bit more range, so for Christmas he got me a Winchester model 70 Westerner in 7mm mag. I was absolutely extatic until I found out it cost me my Mannlicher.
