Manual action receivers from specter ballistics and Maple Ridge Armouries which one?

Trying to decide between the two. Other than the spring assisted charging handle what are the other pros and cons to each one?
I a, in the list already for the specter one so I am just wondering if I should cancel it and get in on the maple ridge one...thoughts?

ATRS is still taking orders for the Modern Sporter :ar15:

+1. Got useless parts need a lower and upper. Not going to drop 2 or 3 Large on another potential Castro grab until this Brown shower has been booted.
 
Honestly see if kodiak or Wolverine will let you buy an upper + lower with barrel and gas parts..

Then your stock, pistol grip, trigger, mags, handguard, and optics can all go on a semi auto platform rather than a rifle that costs more that a 5.56 bolt action like the ranch

I want to build a short barrel rifle for hunting...I think the ATTS is overpriced...not interested
 
The Spectre design is easier to service.
The bolt comes out between the two halves. You just need to remove the charging handle.

The Maple Ridge design needs to take the bolt out through the buffer-tube hole. Similar to a JR-Carbine.

Styling is personal preference.
Spectre is more plain looking. Maple Ridge is more flamboyant.

Spring loaded or not?
Spectre will probably be easier to deal with malfunctions and/or hard extractions without a spring return.
Maple Ridge will probably be slightly faster to cycle consistently with the spring return.

I’m not in for either so take this for what it’s worth...I find any spring assisted manual action creates as many problems as it solves. Understanding of course I am referring to mostly pump shotguns, but for that reason, I’d lean towards the non-assisted design.

I bought the MPA over the other because of the spring assist, Specter says using buffer tube with spring will more likely attract attention of RCMP then their design, I think using and AR-15 Bolt carrier would attract more, other rifles use the buffer tube design for adjustable butt stock, but I can't think of another rifle that usses a AR-15 Bolt carrier other than an AR-15. I like the idea of spring assist, I think it would be faster and less work to cycle action. Troy straight pull rifle has the same design with spring assist. MPA uses it own Bolt carrier design and stated it could never be converted to semi

Having to pull the buffer tube off to get at the bolt is a pain, like the JR Carbine, but with no gas getting needing to cycle action, how dirty can it get, so you probably would only need to take it apart once a year
 
I think Im gonna do a MRA next year the dust settles. I've actually been interested in this kind of rifle for a while outside of all the OIC stuff for PRS. I think it would be even to stay on the rifle like this. We shall see!

Interesting take on it. Never considered one of these for PRS.
 
One other small advantage of the Spectre receiver is that the action stays open on it's own.
You can set it down on a bench or a gun rack at the range, without needing a chamber flag.

The Maple Ridge receiver will need a chamber flag inserted whenever you set it down.

Not a big deal. But something else to consider.
