Hey I've been looking and asking around at every Ithaca dealer and anyone that has anything related but can't find a manual for my Ithaca 72 Saddle Gun and was wondering what's the best way to get it cleaned (to much lube in minus 20 weather). Should I pull it apart and take lots of pictures or pay a gun smith to pull it apart and ask if I can watch. I've only ever stripped one gun down and did that with detailed instructions. So please help. My .22 is a great gun out to 100 yard in my hands and better then my 12 gauge on rabbits.

Have you had a look at the "assembly/ disassembly" series of books, to see if your Ithaca is covered?

There are 4 or 5 different books, each covering a type of firearm. The Rimfire one may be what you need.

Other than that, take a photo or two of the innards as they come visible, or scratch out a sketch or two of the orientation of the springs as they wrap around various pins and parts, and don't be satisfied with it working while there are still parts on the table.

I believe if you do a search I answered your question about a year and a half ago. 'Boo's got it the Henry 22 is identical, and I mean the basic lever 22 not the golden boy.

Haven't been around that long only 7 months and I got one hit on a manual but it was not a complete manual (missing the part about disassembly). I actually got an exploded view of a H001 and used that as a template of parts and stripped the gun down and cleaned off 99% of the gun oil and residue build up. Other then the lifter assembly being slightly different the gun is the same everywhere else. Whats a good cleaner to use on a gun for the gunk you can't wipe off and don't want to scrape? I have some Carburetor Cleaner would that work or would that be two hard on the parts?!?!

The rimfire assembly/disassembly book only shows the Ithaca 49....
I don't know how far the manual goes but there is a copy available on ebay
