Mapleseed Training Rifle

Getting back to MS's rifle for a moment.... What stock is that? I was considering selling off my own cheap basic 10-22. But if I could give it a full stock look like this I could be easily convinced to keep it. That looks like more of a competition or "match" barrel as well. More details please if you don't mind Major?

It's pretty nice.

just as Can Down said. Simply a Talo distributor edition bone stock Ruger. I have added Tech Sights, USGI Sling, extended mag release and a buffer. I would like to add an upgraded firing pin and extractor as well as a better trigger. The Talo "Mannlicher" stock (Or "International" stock) also has a raised cheek piece on the left side as well.

Anyone else getting a rim-fire setup for attending a Mapleseed event? With my prodding, my father agreed to host an event on his property, so I felt the need to get a Ruger 10/22 again (Sold both mine a few years back and regretted ever since).

I'm most of the way there, just some more internals (firing pin & extractor), and if I'm good maybe a 2 stage from my wife. ;)
Currently have TI buffer, TI Extended Charging handle, Tech Sights & USGI sling.

I am going to that event. I have a similarly equipped 10-22 (Tech Sights, BX trigger, bolt release mod, buffer and plain sling). I note that on the Mapleseed site they say that the usual Mapleseed gun has a scope. I am a fair hand with open sights, but wonder if I am putting myself at a disadvantage going without a scope. Looking forward to trying this out! db

You can do very will with a stock 10/22. The most important thing is getting the right cheek weld on the rifle. If you are shooting iron sights the stock stock is good to go. If you add a scope you'll most likely need to adjust your cheekweld.

There is a video on their facebook page that gives an overview.

Most of the rimfire rifles from the factory are more than accurate enough to shoot a "rifleman" score. Stock Remington 597, Marlin 795 and 10/22s have all scored rifleman. My first Appleseed/Mapleseed rifle was a stock marlin 795 with a cheap simmons 4x and I shot rifleman with that. Nothing wrong with upgrading with nicer parts cause you want to - I shoot a DLask Dar-22 now but you don't need it to shoot well at a mapleseed event. Check the cheekweld and you should be good to go.

IMO any shooter is at a disadvantage using open sights, even Tech Sights, competing against a scoped gun, everything else being equal.

The good news is that at these events the goal is to develop your marksmanship skills. There is no competition other than to improve your self. If folks want to be proficient with their rifle and iron sights I say go for it.

I attended this weekend's mapleseed at EOSC. What a great time. Instructors were friendly and very knowledgeable. I shot rifleman with a slightly modded 10/22. The mapleseed motto in reference to gear is "run what you brung". Guys were shooting all sorts of .22s. some guys even rocked bolt action guns.

If there is a mapleseed in your area, don't hesitate. You will have fun and learn a few things too.
