Me again.

Apparently Marbles makes a tang sight that will fit my Uberti 1885. No drilling or tapping necessary. Good for elevation and wind age and certainly cost effective as compared to the higher end sights. Just getting started with single shot lr shooting so want to keep the costs down for now. Down the road maybe a Shiloh with superior sights, but that’s for later.

Anyone have experience with this option?

Marbles are decent sights but have limitations. I would suggest looking at Montana Vintage Arms and selecting a mid range Soule sight and front globe. They are worth a few dollars but the staff can be put on other rifles with with a new base. Give MVA a call and they will set you up with what you need. Very knowledgeable and helpful folks. When you say long range what distances are you referring too?

Just wondering if it’s worth spending lots of dough for the sight on an Uberti.

200-300 yrds to start. But eventually move into the 800 range - a Kamloops club for that distance I think.

Buy once, cry once. I would look to Montana or similar. Quality iron sights go for the same price as budget optics. Personally I wouldn’t think twice about a minimum of 500- 750 on an optic for a 2000.00 rifle. Likely the dollar nearly match.

You won’t find your way to 300y+ with ease in a marbles sight, but the Montana will get you there and beyond.

I think they also look awesome, but ymmv.

Makes sense, just having something decorative w/o utility won’t cut it. Sounding like I’ll have to spend at least 1/3 the cost of the gun for a decent set of sights.

You should stop equating the cost of accessories (sights) to the cost of the rifle! To my mind, one has nothing to do with the other! Lots of folk shoot Italian repops very successfully. I have several BPCR rifles: 4 45-70's, (2-Pedersoli, 1-Uberti and a Browning) 2 38-55's Danish rolling blocks 1 40-65 (Uberti) 1 45-90 (Pedersoli) and a 40-70 Sharps straight being built on a Uberti 1885 action. The most expensive tang sight I have on any of them is a Browning, acquired here on CGN. I have a Shaver "Economy" tang sight on one of them, works very well. The others all carry Pedersoli's and all those work very well. MVA, Kelly, Shaver are all GREAT sights, without a doubt and if I ever get down to 1 or 2 rifles then I would consider a Kelly or MVA.
As previously stated, Marble's is a quality sight and best suited on a "Hunting" rifle for ease of target acquisition.
These are personal observations and not meant to inspire debate or cast aspersions on any one's thoughts or choices.
Stay safe, all!

I doubt the Marble sights will have the elevation for 800.

I'll second the advice given. Sights are a separate entity to the rifle and you will be less successful and more frustrated if your equipment doesn't match the aspirations you have long range shooting.

Ok, very first shot with the Uberti this morning. Shouldered at 40 yards indoors with the iron sights. Who needs a tang sight ;)

I used a Pedersoli Vernier sight bought from Marstar on my Uberti 1885. Worked fantastic and the holes were right. I sold the rifle and now have moved the sights to my Sharps. No complaints.

Thanks good to know that the holes fit. Mine has the pistol grip stock, I wonder if that matters. Is cleaning the bore from the breech an issue?

My rifle had the pistol grip as well, it was the Uberti 1885 Special Sporting model. I didn't have any issue cleaning the bore with the sight folded down.

Just checking the Marstar site. Do you remember the product code? Was it the Soule mid range?

I have this one on my C Sharps high wall in 22lr works great and can be cleaned from the breech with the sight on no problem. The sight I have was made by C Sharps for a short time and is adujustable for wind age and elevation. It s a nice sight but it doesn’t t compare to a quality Vernier tang sight

I'll be shooting up to 300 yards to start, so the Pedersoli sight will do me to start I think. Down the road if I step up to 800 yards or more (Kamloops) I'll more than likely buy a Shiloh or C Sharps with a better sight. Seems crazy for me to pay out big bucks for a sight on a 2grand gun.

Btw, any tips for installing the sight if I don't have to drill and tap? Or is it simply screws out, screws in?
