WTF? You haven't a clue about the Politics or the people of Afghanistan do you? Speaking of arrogance and ignorance, you simply are assuming that we as the western self professed good guys are going in to fix their 10000 year old backwards culture.
Do you realize the "culture" you are referring to has only existed since 1996. well here is some history for you, Afghanistan was previously ruled by a number of warlords that were themselves brutal and corrupt. The Taliban at that time were welcomed by the majority of the Afghan population and the global community as they were a religious based organization which offered stability and freedom for the people. Shortly after they gained control of the Afghan government however, they began to impose their own laws and rules on the people and became increasingly extreme. Their rule/interpretation of Sharia law isn't recognized by the vast majority of global Muslims. And the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Suppression of Vice (religion police) were every bit as brutal as the former warlords in imposing these entirely new extremist rules. For the average Afghan citizen life got a whole lot worse.
And for what it is worth Canada's involvement began back in 1999 with the UN security council and resolution 1267, and NOT as a result of our NATO affiliation.
And I don't even want to guess where you get the statistics to support the statement "another few million" civilian deaths at the hands of NATO forces.

Perhaps we all needed to be sidetracket from the realities, the gruesome fate of these german military prisoners, herded like cattle throught the streets of Moscow, in 1944, before they ended up as slaves, then worked and starved to dead in gulags ?

The mighty german army never expected to end their invasion of Russian this way. Most of these captured/surrendered soldiers in these movie clips, vanished under gruesome conditions in russian gulags.
There is a clear russian historical message in their treatmant and "final solution" for these captured german soldiers:
"If you invade Mother Russia, kill russians and destroy russian property, expect to go on a one way trip, no return ticket provided, and you loved ones will never find out where and when you died an untimely dead from starvation, deseases and overwork."

Yep, its called spite. It is the typical Russian way. It's the reason why the Katyn forest murders occurred. The Poles handed the Russians their asses on a platter to them during the 1920 war and it was their idea of payback. It was also driven by fear; wipe out the command structure and it would be harder for the Poles to do it to them again.

As well as russians got their historical revenge against the humiliating japanese victory over the russian navy in 1904, when the russian army defeated the japanese manchurian army in 1945, as well as sending the defeated japanese troops and civilians to the russian gulags, and more than recovered russian territories lost to the japanese in 1904. Some of these japanese prisoners spend more than thirty years as prisoners in Russia.
