Abolsolutely beautiful Speckfire. I love that Sako marked stock. Very nice. I would be interested to know what maker and year your reciever is, when you take it apart, check it in the usual location for date and factory stamp.

Thanks Bittermansbro. I did take it apart for cleaning but forgot to look. I guess I'll have to check again :)

I can't see the pic from work (firewalled), but is it the straight stocked M39 that was left at CS?

It is a straight stocked M39. I did not get it from CS. It was from a CGNer. He stated that it came straight from Finland. I don't know much about the details.

LOL. I HIGHLY doubt a fellow CGNer imported one from Finland. I'll be if you press him about it, it recently came in through collector's source "directly from Finland". They imported the last batch from there about a year ago, though those of us in the know had our orders in well before the guns ever arrived. ;)

PS: FWIW, you can check out a righteous straight stocked M39 on the milsurps.com website in the Finland section. Lots of info there too about the specific variant.

OK, too funny! I just checked the serial number and pics of your rifle. I almost bought that one when it was still at Collector's Source, so I guarantee you it came from there. Also, you may not know, but that rifle was refurbished post-war and then re-issued. Despite being a 1941 Sako, it falls well outside the accepted serial number range for a straight stocked M39. that, coupled with the metal wear disproportionate to the wood wear leads me to believe your rifle is one of the examples that received a left-over straight stock at refurb during a refurb shortly after the Continuation war.

In any event, nice rifle that ALMOST was in my rack before I decided on a different M39 they had for sale - lol.

As for this month's purchases, picked up this little beauty from a fellow CGNer. It came to me in a scant stock that was split at the recoil lug :( Luckily I was able to find this original and correctly cartouched FJA S stock :) You can still faintly make out hte ordnance wheel to the left of it too.

Now everything is zen!

The brown patches in the pics are some stubborn old crusted on cosmolene in a few places - not rust ;)

Thanks for the info Claven, what a small world indeed LOL. I just tried the rifle today. Absolutely wonderful to shoot. No sticky bolt syndrome. The rifle is very accurate too. I was very pleasantly surprised and congrats on your new purchase. She's a beauty.
