New to the game, by "Turked" you mean the modification on the bolt?

There were huge numbers of this rifle made but it had only about a 10 year front line service life. Many of these guns were sent to Turkey to help them out with WWI.
Look over the rifle carefully for any crescent moons. They are often on the small parts too like rear sight, bolt handle, etc. I have some good books on the Gew88. If you want to post or send me some more detailed photos, I can help tell you exactly what you have.
Have you slugged the barrel? .318 or .323? Don't trust what anybody tells you the barrel should be - you need to know before you shoot it. Don't shoot WWII or later mil-surp ammo in it.
One of these Gew88 is on my hit list, but I'm holding out to find a nice specimen.

Hmmm. I bought a couple of stainless steel .22's for the Scouting day at our local gun club. Makes 10 that I can take up there with me. All the non stainless are going going gone. A bunch of leather arrived finally for my HK P7M8 and P7PSP's but I forgot to renew my border points ATT so no concealed carry for me this month. Called the CFO Office and they faxed me a renewal of my border points ATT. I love them - although they do get swamped and I am still a believer in licensing the owner and not the firearm. But that's another thread. Still working on a lefty AR15 for my son and thinking biathalon gear now.

Mine has the same finish gap. After the war they rebuilt these using available NOS parts in inventory to speed things up and bring them back out. Some parts were parked, others left alone like the bands, buttplate and nose caps. They were then put back into boxes and waited deployment to Korea and Vietnam (until replaced by Win M70 and Rem 700s.) My barrel is a 1944 4 groove "unfired". The milled trigger housing and floorplate were often swapped on the field by snipers (perceived as more stable) and left on during the rebuild.
