Mares Leg advice.

I would recommend completely avoiding them, particularly in 44 mag............ at least until I can get my hands on one. They look like a lot of fun, I have heard they aren't very practical but I don't think that's why people buy them.

Good for bush defense in .44 and small enough to carry in a pack, also can hunt in tight bush as well. I thought many time of getting one but that big loop they come with looks stupid and the price is not justified for me to have a marginalized use rifle.

I can’t deny the appeal, and have owned several, but ultimately sold them all due to lack of practicality. Beyond the novelty of owning something non-restricted that flies in the face of our ridiculous gun laws and the “just because” factor, their main selling point is portability. So something in .357 or .44 makes a good hiking companion, and while difficult to shoot accurately at all, yet alone under the stress of a charging bear or whatever, it is still certainly better than a pointy stick in that situation. A full length stock would make it slightly less portable and “cool,” but would significantly improve shootability.

I've had 44 Mag and 45 LC in the Mare's leg profile. I much preferred the 45 LC over the 44 Mag.
44 Mag was just touch lively...45 LC is a gentle caliber I find. 45 LC should be safe to bring to +police levels if raw power is the final plan too.
Get a full sized back stock too, can pack it like a regular carbine then. The holster carry...leaves a bit to be desired IMHO.

A friend came out to the farm a while back who had one in I think .357. Lots of sh*ts n giggles, hard to aim at any distance but we went through a box of 50 rounds in a very short time. If we had 4 boxes we would have gone through 4 boxes. Glad i didn't pay for ammo :)
