Mare's Leg/Ranch Hand CAS Approved?

I've been eyeing up a Mare's Leg or Ranch Hand for the simple reason that I want to get into CAS but I'd rather not deal with the RPAL and ATT hassle.

Anyone know if these are approved as handguns for the sport?

I know there non restricited, I'm wondering if you can use them in place of the revolvers.

But yeah, with those grips I don't expect to hit much. Probably better off getting my rpal and revolvers.
 
There are not. From SASS rulebook:

"Original single action revolvers manufactured prior to 1899, their approved replicas, and
the SASS approved single action adjustable sight revolvers are the only revolvers approved for use in SASS main match competition."

That being said, if your club allows it...
 
I suspected as much but thank you for the confirmation.

My club doesn't have anything setup, I was actually thinking of seeing if anyone at the club would be interested.
 
Pimpley Bum, EXCELLENT AVATAR!!!! Hobo with a Shotgun, classic NB film. And no the Maresleg is not legal for SASS matches as a handgun. Lets not put that little nugget in the Governments ear either. They are however legal for SASS Pistol Caliber rifle if you like, afaik. But GET YOUR RESTRICTED LICENSE, drives me bananas when people call it an RPAL. That being said, having a mares leg/mares leg 22 side match at an event would be stellar.
 
Hmm...if I could swap the short stock out for a full size one, that would be great. Would be a nice handy little rifle.

Edit: Was it shot in NB? I thought I recognized the bridge over to Dartmouth and a bunch of the locations they used for TPB in the movie.

In the extras for the movie they talk about filming in NB, perhaps second unit did some other shots elsewhere. They were also going on about the brickland.
 
If you were to put a full stock on one, would it be acceptable as the rifle?

I have one in 44 and am getting one in 45.

The 44 already has a full stock and is very accurate at 50 yards so I think the 45 with a full stock would be good for some one just getting into it.

Practically all rifle stages use ten rounds so the Mare's Leg would be at a real disadvantage. I wouldn't recommend it at all.
