Marine Recon’s New .45 calibre

fired 12,000 rounds before being deadlined due to visible safety-critical cracks found in the slides. Each slide had cracks in the same location, but they varied in size.

Hard to believe they went this route. The Navy already has HK45C's in inventory, the rest of the Special Operations Forces world wide are shooting Glock, Sig Sauer and HK....to the tune of tens of thousands of rounds with no failures or issues.

Not that it's not a valid observation, but they did alter the cuts on the slide, which fixed the problem.

I do think they're overpriced, though.

Yes, the issue with the slide cuts was fixed before they started production. Funny they chose a 1911 considering there are double stacked .45's available. I seem to recall they had their sights on a 1911 from the onset.

I love the 1911, personally. I would take a 1911 over almost anything. But I'm not an organization, I'm an individual.

I also think the HK45/45C would have been a way better choice.

But you know what they say about the Marines...200 years of tradition, unimpeded by progress.

The concept that the larger the caliber the more effective the firearm is interesting.
There is a study on the net somewhere, that after studying pistol and firearm fatalities from .32 ACP to 12 gauge, on the average it took just over 2 rounds to disable a person. The shots going into the torso and head.
Like hunting it's shot placement that counts, but propaganda and gun magazines that persuade people as to what they need.

Funny that MARSOC uses Glock19's

I love 1911's but they are not a choice in 2014 for fielding to an organization. It is an enthusiast piece these days.

And YES I have carried a 1911.
