I just noticed Questar AR section has a new name Vulcan Armament, their V15 line might be the entry price AR lowers Questar is bring in or may be they are looking at bring in the V18 (AR180) line :runaway:

go and check out Vulcan's website

wow that V18 looks like it has better specs than a Armalite AR-18b ,,, it has a 20 inch 1/7 chrome lined barrel, carbon fiber lower? , its listed MSRP is $689 in the states, so it should be around $1000 here unless we completely juiced..

Umm, Vulcan Arms if I'm not mistaken, is the new incarnation of Hesse, a company with such a poor reputation they had to change the name to stay in the game.

Anyone can improve, but if I'm right, I hope Mark has a high tolerance for customer complaints. I'd like to be wrong on this.

+1 Don't think I've ever heard of a positive review for any Hesse/Vulcan product.

The one product that Vulcan makes that DOES NOT have a history of issues is their carbon fibre lower. They have sold about 18,000 of these over the past few years and those specific lowers have in fact had pretty good feedback and very few negative posts (stating actual issues with the lower as opposed to hatred for the manufacturer's past issues).

Given the extremely good pricing we were able to get on them we figured we'd take a shot. People have been asking for an inexpensive way to get into the AR game and these lowers give you that. They are actually quite good (visually) and from what we saw the fit seems pretty good as well.

The material is stronger than aluminum and the colour goes all the way through the material so you don't get "dings" like you do with aluminum lowers.

Again... the purpose for these lowers is to give people a cheap entry level. How you build it up will determine the quality of your finished product. At the end of the day the lower is essentially a trigger housing with serial number. For some purchasers it's all about saving money.

As for the rest of their product line, I would agree with Cannuck223... enough said.

With respect to their V18 this is a moot point anyway since they are classified as "Prohibited" by the RCMP.

The THR post was from a few years ago and it was an aluminum lower not the carbon fibre. I wouldn't handle their regular stuff as the reputation and past track record truly sucks... but... the carbon aramid product truly seems okay... it looked and felt good and time will tell with our own first hand testing.

Bottom line though... for someone looking to get an AR registered into their name this is a cheap way to do so. It also makes for an excellent lower for anyone wanting to build a dedicated .22lr AR and my guess is that it will work quite well as a cheap AR build in .223/5.56 or 9mm too.

We're betting that the product we saw last week is NOT anything like what the US forums were criticizing 5 to 8 years ago... and from the customer's standpoint you'll be dealing with Questar for any issues (not Vulcan).

As for ears breaking and stripped lowers having issues... well I've seen issues with just about every brand of aluminium lower currently on the market... and those often cost hundreds of dollars more. We wouldn't be importing these if we didn't believe that they would offer good value and performance.

Time will tell for sure :)

hmm, US price is $80, any idea on what the canadian retail price will look like? even at 50% more, its still cheap enough for any budget.

Yah, if these will be cheaper than the Aero Precision lowers, there's a 90% chance I'll buy one to finally get into the AR15 game.
