Mark II 303 ball ammo... an interesting find

Hello fellow milsurps lovers

Acquaintance of mine stumbled upon this (old family stuff...). Now, I am assuming that finding still-wrapped Mark II 303 ball ammo is not super common, but I am wondering how uncommon it is, and if anyone has recently seen this at swap meets or gun shows (well, pre-Covid obviously). Wondering what this kind of artefact can sell for, to vintage ammo collectors?

Too bad the box is busted, but even then, given the date is still clear on it... even the box is cool.

Interesting that the box has a 1900 date and the ammunition packets have different dates of 1902 and 1903.
The Mark II was the standard .303 cartridge of the Boer War so they went over with our Long Lee Mark I rifles.
My guess is to bring all to a Gun Show when they start up and see what you can get for each packet and box. JOHN

Is the box full, or only partially full? I suspect a full box would have more value, but would be much harder to actually sell.

No doubt! When my friends grandpa died they found an old Enfield in the basement that hadn't been used in 30+ years. My friend decided that was reason enough to go get his PAL rather than give it to me... Which, by all means, good on him, we need more gun owners, but at the same time, who wouldn't love a free rifle? lol

I bought a couple packs, same as above MkII, this past fall at a show for $45 per pack. There are a few of those wood boxes around. Shape etc worth my opinion $75ish.

So this type of ammo crate was screwed closed? .( just guessing by the look of the holes along the edge of the top panel
Love seeing this ammo related things just as much as the ammo its self.

Its very interesting just getting a look at the storage box. I always look at ammo boxes whenever I see them. A whole arm of military logistics not commonly thought about except by select nutz. A lot of time and energy is channelled into box design for the end user while addressing engineering economy.

Our unit had its own box shop that was always busy & almost to a man it was staffed by ncm's with an RCR cap badge. This was in the 80's.

OP can we get some pics of the sides and ends please?

One sold this week end at a small auction. 30.00 beans it was painted a bright olive green I believe it was original as the stenciling was still legible ( I saw only a picture of it in its listing. )
