I'm looking at picking up a bolt .22lr for some plinking and grouse/rabbit hunting anyone have experience with these? Or is there a another model of any manufacturer that you would recommend? I have a 10/22 and its great fun but that trigger just kills me for accuracy. Or would you guys recommend a 22mag or 17hmr?

You could just buy a few parts and fix the trigger on the 10/22.
Otherwise, a .22 LR bolt action would be fine, depends on your budget.
There are very few poor choices.

Some good ones based on increasing cost:
used cooey
used mossberg
norinco
savage/marlin
cz
browning tbolt
etc.
I just bought a Krico .22 off of EE, great quality for around 500 with scope.

If you want a good value, accurate new gun with a good trigger, it's pretty hard to beat a Savage Accu-trigger bolt action.

ya i could just buy a trigger kit for like 100$ for the 10/22 but for another 140$ get a whole new rifle.

Get the FV-SR... I did the same thing... I made this build for grouse and rabbits using CCI Quiet LR loads... It has a Hawke Varmint SF 3-12X44mm mounted and shoots very tight at 25 yards, on small game most shots will be under 30 yards anyway... the Quiet LR loads are crap beyond 35 yards... the groups really open up.

How much was the stock? But would a 22mag or a 17hmr be a better gun? I love hitting steel at 200 yards. This gun accurate enough to hit steel at 200 yard? Would the 16" barrel be to short?

I can hit a steel barn at 200 yards even with the Quiet LR.

What size steel are you talking about?

You asked about a gun for grouse and rabbits and now you are talking about a gun for 200 yards shooting... you couldn't get more polar opposite requests.

well i want it for grouse and rabbits, but good fun to hit steel at 200 yards, like a 8 inch plate. Or would a 22mag or 17hmr be a better hunter, plinker? though more expensive ammo.

I like my FV SR. I bought it used off the EE and I use it quite often. I put a 3-9 tasco worldclass on it and works well with it. I just bought a boyds stock for it too. I'd buy one again.

i just ordered one

Mine will be here tuesday

.22lr will hit a 8" plate at 300+ if you do your part.

I was ringing a 6" gong with a stock 10/22T at 220-250 using hold-over. Once I got a scope with enough elevation travel it became boringly easy.

Those faster rimfires are just more expensive noise for that you want to do.

~25moa from 50yds to 200, roughly. 300 took some hold over.

I'd look into a scope with at least 50moa (preferably 75moa) total travel and then add a 25moa base like a DIP. Add in some Burris Zee rings with offset inserts and you can get way out there.
If you want to do it reliably you need a scope with very repeatable adjustments. That is far more important that total magnification, I do all my shooting with 16x. Look for a 4-16 4200 or Weaver V16.

Mine sucks donkey #### as far as accuracy is concerned. It's been sitting at one of Savage's illustrious repair facilities since the first week in May. Hasn't been dealt with yet and no ETA as to when I'll get it back either.
