mark III 22/45 vs standard

You need to define better. I have a 22/45 and a Mk.II. Both are far more accurate than I am, very reliable and fun to shoot. The 22/45 is significantly lighter and balances differently because of the polymer frame. The grip angles and feel are very different, with the 22/45 grip being quite thin and having no option to change the grip panels if you don't like them. I would suggest handling both to see which fits your hands better. Other than the grips, they are basically interchangable.

I have a MkII 5.5" bull barrel and a MkIII 22/45 4.5" slabside barrel. Like 'em both.

That's right and the difference is easily seen.
If shooting .22 is all that the owner would be doing then either is a fine gun. But if the .22 will be used in conjunction with other semis then I feel the 22/45 is a better option since the frame angle is much closer to the angle used by most other center fire semis. If you're jumping back and forth and especially if you're looking at any of the speed related match shooting events then keeping all your guns similar for grip angle is helpful. But if you'll never get into that and will just be shooting at your own pace then none of that matters as you've got lots of time to alter your grip to get the right aim.
I have a 22/45 MkIII and Love it. grip feel like a 1911 but not as wide as the 1911, Good trainer.

IMO handling it's a lot better on the classic/standard MKII-MKIII
