Mark III Ross - jamming bolt issue

I recently aquired a full wood Mk 3 Ross rifle and I'm having a bit of difficulty with the bolt. It seems the head of the bolt is extremely touchy and tries to spring back into the locked position at the slightest bump. My girlfriends Ross is touchy too, but not as bad as this one.

Now, when the bolt is pulled all the way back the force of the extraction bumps the bolt head enough that it tries to retract. The twist of the bolt head jams down into the flat bolt guide forcing the front of the bolt upwards and causing a jam. It's quite difficult to move the bolt at this point as it gets wedged in there pretty good.

It looks like it's been doing this for some time as there's a scar in the guide that the bolt slides on.

Does anyone else have this problem, and if so have you found a fix that isn't drastic?

Thanks for the help.

Looks like the rails are pooched. I have seen another one like this and nothing short of a full rebuild of the rails with welding and remachining could make it work gain. Then, there's the necessary heat treatment to be done after all these operations... all in all, better save all the parts you can and find another good frame to interchange with.
My .02$
PP.

I haven't seen this before.

If it is the case that the frame is pooched, you can find other Mk III receivers on bubbaed or shot out guns for not too much. I know a gent who would probably have a good receiver, then you have to pay a gunsmith to swap barrels.

Damn, that's what I was afraid of. Unfortunately the seller didn't mention the jamming issue and if it means a major overhaul I'll be asking for a return and refund for the rifle.

I have tried exchanging bolts among Ross I owned, and they wouldn't all interchange. Out of 3, there was one bolt that would only fit in the rifle it came with. The other two bolts would fit them all. Maybe you can find someone who will let you try another bolt to see if that solves the problem. I know a gun shop that had a spare bolt, but not if they still have it or if it would fit.

I'll give my girlfriends bolt a try and see what happens. If I find another bolt should I expect headspace issues? I have a no go headspace guage here for use on Lee Enfields. I'll try to get some photos up tonight.

Thanks for all the help guys!
