Looking at having a 300 Weatherby Mark V re barrelled to a 300 WinMag or have a new match grade barrel installed. I like the Weatherby bolt system for escaping gases if you blow a primer, but I don't like like availability and $$ of Weatherby ammo

I also like their 54 degree bolt which makes it much faster between rounds

Any thoughts or suggestions? Has anyone else done this?

First question is are you a reloader? If you are once you have a supply of brass the cost of 300 Wea over 300 Win is 1cent in extra powder....or nothing if you load down to 300 WM power level. Lots of manufacturers are now loading Wea, and the price is not nosebleed like some Wea ammo. I think i saw 257 Wea for like $60/box which is what a box of premium factory now goes for in many calibers. I know that many of the non Wea caliber Mark V are not 9 lug actions.

I rebarrelled a Mark V Ultra lightweight in .300 Weatherby to .300 Win with a #2 Gaillard barrel. Its twice the gun now far as accuracy goes.

Unless something has changed Cabelas sells Weatherby brand .300 Weatherby spire point for $42 bucks a box. That's cheaper than the empty brass.

Yep, having Weatherby anywhere near a rifle adds to the price. Just like having Cadillac does to a car.
Epp's starts at $125 for re-chambering, but you'll need another barrel or need the chamber cut back due to the difference in case length. The Weatherby is .205" longer. Call 'em and talk to 'em.
Might be an idea to sell the .300 Weatherby and buy one in .300 Win. Epp's wants $899 for a Vanguard.

Obviously not a reloader. You would be better off selling the rifle and buying something in 300 WM. To rebarrel the rifle will cost as much as a new rifle. Why not trade it off on what you want or just sell it??
Enjoy

Thanks for the input Dogleg. I wished I would have done the same thing to my last Mark V Ultra Lightweight. I sold it because I could not get the accuracy I wanted with my reloads and it was frustrating waiting for the barrel to cool down between shots. I just like the 300 WinMag caliber but like the Mark V action so Im toying with the idea of rebarrelling

You do know you can buy 300 why factory ammo for $49 a box right??? You can buy a lot of ammo for the price on a new barrel and chamber job. Also Weatherly chambers the markV in a300 win mag. You could just buy one of those
