I am looking for a .22 lr that I would be able to use for the rest of my life (I am 19). I have been looking at the Weatherby Mark XXII or the Ruger 77/22. Does anyone have experience with these two rifles?

There is a wide selection of 22's that you could use forever, and this is because bolt action 22 never wear out. You have picked 2 models that are quite far a part in the value of things.
The Weatherby of course is built on an Anschutz action of European Quality, the Ruger is not.
CZ is another brand also made in Europe but about 1/2 the money of the weatherby. There are a few on the Rimfire exchange right now in the $500.00, a nicer rifle that the Ruger in my opinion
FS

I have quite a few rimfires, 3-10/22's-now down to one. A Gevarm E-1. A stevens pump. A Savage Mark II, and a 93R (.17hmr). A Buckmark Camper. A Heritage Revolver (.22/.22mag). I have a BMR on the way. I plan to buy 1 or 2 more 10/22's, a 597, a CZ and I am anxiously awaiting the Colt M4 to go on sale up here in Canada.

That being said. If I HAD to choose one Rimfire .22 to last the rest of my life and I could only have one.... I'd probably choose a CZ with a Varmit barrel on it.

But that is my opinion, I have never shot a CZ, just held it. Its a solid platform and the reputation is very very good.

Hope this helps!

I would go with the Weatherby MarkXXII as the action is an Anshutz 64 series action.

I have not shot one of those though but I do have an Anshschutz with a 64 series action that is very nice to shoot, and grew up shooting a CIL 310 which also uses the same action (see if you can find one of those they are nice repeaters as well)

The ruger 77/22 I have shot 2, one I liked and one I did not, I am not a huge Ruger fan (own only a Ruger pistol) but yeah.

If you wanna spend some money on a gun you will never sell get an Anshutz 1700 series sporter thats what I did. Just depends what your budget is, the weatherbys new are around the same price as a used Annie sporter (if you can find one)

Here is mine

The 22 I go to most often is my Rem 541c. I also feel,Walther, a Bruno,CZ.Anshults. all would be a better choice. I sold my 77-22 & have never owned the Weatherby. Look at the 22 in photo threads, (esp the ones from Eagle eye) It is a smart move to get a great 22 as you will shoot it far more than anyother rifle. good luck

I owned both a Weatherby XXII and a 77/22.
The quality is like night & day.
If you want a gun you can mode and not worry about, get the Ruger
If you want a rifle that will last a lifetime and you can pass on to your children, get the Weatherby

no contest, the Weatherby wins hands down in fit finish and quality. I also have a CZ but the Weatherby beats it in the accuracy dept as well and the fit and finish on the Weatherby also is a notch above the CZ. The stocks on Weatherbys are really nice and have a lot of figure in them.
