Marksman Litghow SMLE Heavy Barrel

That rifle happens to be one of the many used in the Australian version of the DCRA. They had a couple of strict rules when it came to rifles; 1). Being that all service type rifles must be easily converted back to service standard. When WW2 came around a lot of these rifles were recalled into the militia so as to be deployed defending the Country. One of the big names in the target shooting community down under was a guy named Peavey Percy.

These were not allowed in British competition, unless you were part of the visiting Australian team or had come from Australia in the last twelve (I think) months. That changed in 1948, but the Sht L-E was on the way out by then anyway, No.4s were plentiful and they were easier to set up and they stayed put. Also the HB shot much higher when wet, about 11 minutes, while most L-Es shot above five minutes high when wet.
