Marli 1895 XLR in 45-70

Looking to buy a 1895XLR in 45-70.I already have a Ruger #1 in the same caliber but like the lever action.
My question is the Marlin strong enough to handle the +40k pressure handloads that I use in my #1.

check out a website called marlinowners.com lots of great info there.just bought a 1895 stainless guide gun so i am looking for info as well.the marlin can take take a lot of different ammo and loads one is the garret cartridges.check there website,the main issue with with the marlin is COL can only be 2.5 inchs.but other than that have fun.i am going too.plus reloading is fairly cheap compared to other big bores.lots of good cast bullets out there to use as well in canada
 
the marlin won't take the presures as the Ruger # 1 but it will launch a 440 grain cast at 2000 fps. 40k will be the max presure for the marlin

:rolleyes: Well that depends who you talk to, I have a new 1895GBL and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, it looks and fuctions great and is accurate too boot.

Most of my manuals have 3 levels of loads for this calibre

Weaker for Trapdoors and other original models
Mid level for Marlin 1895
Hotter for Ruger #1
 
I'd like someone to explain why a Marlin 1895 in 45/70 can not be loaded to the same pressure levels as the .450 Marlin in the same rifle? I think the figure is 40K, and because the 45/70 has slightly more capacity, it's a more powerful round...None of this is for lawyers!!!
 
Ben, some of the manuals I have list 40,000 as the maximum for the 45-70 with the reasoning that the the 444 Marlin in the same action operates at that pressure.
