My buddies dad has an 1881 in 40/60. Looks like a 26” octagon barrel. Just a rough idea what it might be worth. Actually in really good shape. Any help/idea would be appreciated. Thanks

Given the information provided I would put the rough estimate of value somewhere between Yes on the low side and No on the high.
 
A lot of things figure into value like scarcity,caliber (45,70 would add value)original condition ,for example whether or not the metal or stock has been refinished,condition of the bore etc.Without pictures no one can even give you an estimate
 
That's in great shape for the age, but it looks weird. The lever looks like it was made with a file by a blind man. The proportions and curve look off on it. The forearm looks like it is out of the kindling box. I'm no expert in antiques, but winchesters of the same era would be more refined??
